Birmingham Hippodrome supports the work experience scheme by offering a 5 Day work placement that is designed to give you an insight into the day-to-day life in a presenting theatre, exploring the range of work that goes on behind the scenes.
We offer a unique opportunity for students to spend a week working in a designated department that contribute to the running of Birmingham Hippodrome. The departments and what you could expect from your time with the Hippodrome should you spend a week working in our:
Visitor Services & Information and Sales (Will require evening work)
Visitor Services – Work with our customer facing teams to give the best experience to every member of the public that walks through our doors
Information & Sales – Also known as Box Office, learn how our busy friendly staff handle the wide range of people booking and enquiring about our exciting shows
Help us produce our exciting projects working with young people from schools and youth groups letting you experience other creative aspects of Birmingham Hippodrome
Communications, Marketing & Programming
Communications – In a world where information is in the palm of your hand see how our Comms team work with the Press and keep our social media up to date
Marketing – It’s not just about putting on a good show! it’s about how we get the word out to our prospective audience. Come and help us make it happen
Programming – Whether you’re coming to see the Pantomime or an evening at the ballet, see how the shows are booked and scheduled in our Main Stage and Patrick Centre
Catering & Events (Will require evening work)
Catering – Get real life experience working in our Award winning Restaurant and Green Room, where you may even get the chance to serve performing Actors or Ballet dancers
Events – See how our conferences and dinners are booked, organised, set up and ran by our creative Hospitality team
Our placements are mainly aimed towards Year 10 & 11 students but is open to any student who shows a genuine interest in the running of the Birmingham Hippodrome business.
At Birmingham Hippodrome we don’t have our own in-house Costume, Make up, Wigs or Set Design Departments. All of these departments tour with the company, therefore we are unable to offer work experience in these fields.

Unfortunately these are our set dates and work experience will only be held during the following weeks:
W/C 23 October 2017
W/C 19 February 2018
W/C 9 April 2018 (deadline 7th February)
W/C 30 July 2018 (deadline 28th May)
All applicants will be contacted 2 months before the start of each placement to let you know if you have been successful if you have we will discuss the placement further and send out any paperwork. We do get inundated with requests for work experience so we will try and respond to your application as quickly as possible.
