Aspiring street dance crews from across the Midlands are being given their chance to shine on the prestigious Birmingham Hippodrome Main Stage – one of the biggest stages in the UK this May as part of B-Side Hip-Hop Festival.

The competition will see young performers from across the region come together to showcase their freestyle dance skills in an epic battle to be crowned ultimate Midlands Street Dance Crew on Sun 21 May.

The winning crew will receive a cash prize of £500, 10 custom branded T-Shirts plus beanies courtesy of Hay Bay Hicks, up to ten free tickets to The Jungle Book at Birmingham Hippodrome and Breakin’ Convention at The REP as well as a performance spot at Birmingham Weekender Festival 2017 from 22-24 September.

Qualifiers will take place on the Birmingham Hippodrome Main Stage from 9.30am-1pm on Sun 21 May. The top four crews will then battle it out head to head at the B-Side Festival Finals on Sun 21 May from 4pm.

The competition is free to enter and there is no age limit for applications. All street dance styles including Poppin, Lockin, Breakin, Hip-Hop, House and Mixed are welcome. Maximum ten members, minimum three members per crew. All qualifier performances must include a combination of routine work and freestyle.

Produced by Birmingham Hippodrome in partnership with artists Break Mission, Juice Aleem, Mickeal ‘Marso’ Riviere, and Graffiti, B-Side Hip-Hop Festival will, once again, see the streets of Southside filled with the sights and sounds of contemporary hip-hop culture in a three-day event featuring some of the biggest names in local and international hip-hop talent.

The festival will take place across the weekend of the 19-21 May and will feature a range of exhilarating outdoor performances, pop-up dance events, interactive talks and live graffiti art, alongside an explosive programme of street dance, high-energy workshops and battles.
