The Birmingham team at Tilney Bestinvest were delighted to support the Curtain Raiser at the opening of Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty on 11 Feb.   As an ongoing performance partner of Birmingham Hippodrome, the additional opportunity to support this unique ‘curtain raiser’ with local dance students between the ages of 12-19 was unmissable.

The sponsorship has enabled us to get involved from the early stages, and some of the team were pleased to be able to visit one of the first rehearsals to see how the students were getting on. A few weeks on, it was wonderful to watch the final dress rehearsal on show day and see all the student’s hard work pay off! You could feel a buzz on-stage and we enjoyed taking photos with the students and choreographers over the course of the afternoon.

On the night itself the atmosphere was electric and it was wonderful to hear how much support the students got, especially the enthusiastic cheers that came from their respective colleges as the performance was announced. The curtain was raised and, voilà, the live performance went off spectacularly! There was a fantastic response from the audience and it was such a perfect way to start the whole evening off.

A huge well done to everybody involved; it was a wonderful performance and something to be really proud off. We are looking forward to hearing more about the futures of these wonderful young dancers, as we’re sure that each one will be very bright!
