Something magical is happening outside the theatre all this week!

Magic Butterfly invites visitors to step inside the world of two classic operas with re-imagined scenes from The Magic Flute and Madam Butterfly!

Using cutting-edge Google daydream technology, Magic Butterfly combines motion capture, animation, music and technology to re-imagine operatic scenes and create an immersive experience using responsive animation and sound.

This pioneering free event follows on from the success of WNO Field, a large scale digital light installation at Wales Millennium Centre in 2016 which represented the 923 Royal Welch Fusiliers who died at the Battle of the Somme during the First World War and have no known grave.  Like Field, Magic Butterfly is designed to inspire and excite both current and new audiences, and present a different and surprising way of experiencing the work of an opera company through embracing new technology.

Catch it for FREE in Hippodrome Square (just outside the theatre entrance) until Saturday. Opening times 4pm – 7pm (Fri 3) and 12.30pm – 3.30pm (Sat 4).
