Last week, Matilda the Musical brought a flurry of magical moments to families at the Library of Birmingham featuring storytelling, workshops and crafts.

Matilda herself, along with her Librarian friend, Mrs Phelps, headed down to the bookshelves of the library to share with children, mums, dads, grannies and grandpas a range of free activities based around what Matilda loves doing best, reading!

Children were invited to write their own imaginative story, drawing their own colourful illustrations and even crafting a number of puppets to bring their tale to life before sharing some of their creations with other new friends.

Mrs Phelps gathered everyone in close to tell the extraordinary tale of Matilda, captivating young and old with a very special story time in the Library’s children’s section, complete with storytelling steps for the perfect setting to share a magical adventure through words.

In the meantime, Matilda explored the building’s hundreds of bookshelves…searching for that one book she may not have read yet.

The afternoon proved to be an action packed few hours, full of creativity celebrating the joys of reading – keep your eyes peeled for plenty more free family fun on the website and by following us on social media. Here’s some highlights from the day…
