Due to the current global situation, performances of Mamma Mia! have moved to 2022. However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t bring the party to you with a selection of ways to enjoy the hit musical and some of Abba’s biggest hits at home…

Dancing into Birmingham

The original production of Mamma Mia! opened in the West End 21 years ago in 1999, since then it has been seen by over 9 million people in London and by 65 million people worldwide. 17 years after opening, the hit musical finally had its Birmingham premiere with us in 2016, running for over two months of performances. To date, this is the only time the production has played in Birmingham ahead of the new 2022 dates.

Take a look at ITV News Central’s report from the opening here in Birmingham…

Super troupers – celebrating 20 years

Last year, the London production celebrated 20 years in the West End with a special performance attended by the show’s creator, Judy Craymer and Abba’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

Movie magic

In 2008, the big screen version of Mamma Mia! starring Meryl Streep and a host of other Hollywood stars quickly became one of the most successful movie musicals of all time, grossing $615 million worldwide. This is probably the closest you can come to enjoying the full stage show at home and you can stream the movie online here.

Ten years later, and following on from the huge success of the original, a sequel was released in 2018 reuniting most of the original cast – you can stream Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again here.

Thank you for the music

Obviously, the worldwide hit musical would not exist without the incredible music of Abba. A great way to enjoy some of their timeless hits is through watching their rare live performances on Youtube – here’s one of our favourite snippets from their 1979 concert at Wembley Arena…

At the Oliviers

Another great way to enjoy the magic of Mamma Mia! is with this performance from the 2014 Olivier Awards which includes an irresistible megamix of hits to dance a long to plus appearances from Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.
