Following the shocking events in Manchester, we offer our deepest sympathies to the families of all those affected.

As a public building, welcoming many hundreds of thousands of patrons annually, we work hard to ensure your safety whenever you visit, and to minimise the possibility of a terrorist attack. This extends of course to the safety of our staff and visiting artists.

We regularly review all our security procedures.  Awareness is a hugely important part of staff training, especially for our Visitor Services teams who greet patrons daily and occasionally conduct bag searches. We have our own in-house security team and employ private security agencies. We are in regular contact with emergency services to ensure we are ready to deal with any unusual events anywhere in the city.  We share information with related city-centre networks about security advice, procedures and training.  We will always try to inform patrons in advance of any changes to our planned programme through local media, via our online channels and through our Box Office team.

Whilst no threat can be completely removed, we believe our processes to be strong.  Every patron at every performance can assist us by being vigilant and reporting to any member of staff anything that may appear suspicious inside or outside our building.  Patrons are of course also asked to respect all ‘unauthorised access’ notices at all times.
