An experiential evening of dance opens with dancer Akshay Sharma showcasing a site specific work based on improvisational ideas framed by notions of emotional dislocation told through the lens of desire.
Celebrated international dance artist Mavin Khoo then offers his own exploration of these ideas in the format of a chamber concert recital – a baithak – within the genre of expressional dance – abhinaya. Interweaving personal stories of love, lust, desire and heartbreak, he creates a synthesis between a personal queer narrative and the majestic legacy of Indian classical compositions.
Presented as part of Birmingham International Dance Festival 2022.
