From the far-off mountains of Transylvania to the all-swinging streets of the Urban Jungle by way of the magical kingdom of Oz, you don’t need to travel very far to experience a world of family-friendly theatre on your doorstep this Summer at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Whether you’re head-over-heels for hip-hop, a sucker for a situational comedy, a first-time theatre goer or simply in the mood to try something new, our brand new season of family shows brings together high-energy spectacle, laugh-out-loud comedy and plenty of surprises along the way.

Kick-starting this Summer’s Patrick Centre programme, spectacular street-dance and breath-taking circus combine to bring Kipling’s classic tale crashing into the 21st Century in Meta Theatre’s The Jungle Book, from 18-22 July.

Choreographed by Kendra J Horsburgh and featuring jaw-dropping tricks from an extraordinary cast of international performers, this high-energy collision of hip-hop dance and contemporary circus brings a new twist to the classic tale of Mowgli and friends. With a beat-loving Baloo, graffiti artist Bagheera and a skate-boarding Wolf crew, this heart-warming coming-of-age story will astonish and amaze everyone from 8 to 108.

For the youngest theatre-goers, Mimika Theatre bring their intimate and immersive production of Landscapes to The Patrick Centre from 9 – 12 August.

Set inside a beautiful white dome, this magical theatre experience suitable for ages 4-11 years ingeniously combines puppetry, original music and stunning visual effects to create a world which wonderfully captures the atmosphere, rhythms, sounds and movements of the natural world.

For a fang-tastic night out for the whole family, physical theatre company La Navet Bete will be sinking their teeth into the blood-curdling history of Transylvania’s most famous son in Dracula – The Bloody Truth from 15-16 Aug.

Join Professor Abraham Van Helsing on a life-changing theatrical journey through the sinister landscapes of 19th Century Transylvania to the charming sea side town of Whitby, as a company of amateur actors frantically attempt to stage a play telling the truth about vampires, how to spot them and how to deal with one if the situation arises. Early booking is strongly advised…it’s a matter of life and death!

Looking ahead to September, Zoonation – the UKs leading hip-hop dance company – make their first ever visit to Birmingham Hippodrome with their all-new adaptation of the critically-acclaimed Groove On Down The Road from 27 – 29 Sep.

Set in a fantastical urban world, this unique twist on the classic story of The Wizard of Oz, tells the story of Dorothy (complete with ruby sneakers!) and her friends Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion on the their all-dancing journey down the yellow brick road in a quest to find happiness and family.

Tickets for all of the above productions are on sale now. For further information and to book, call 0844 338 5000 or visit www.birminghamhippodrome.com
