Our 2024-25 Sustainability Report
This report gives a behind the scenes look at our organisational impact and environmental achievements in 2024-25 across our productions, festivals, building, operations and more.
We intend to publish a sustainability report annually which will update our progress to becoming a leading sustainable venue in Birmingham. We recognise that we have a part to play in making our communities greener and are choosing to address our environmental impact so we can become more innovative, resilient and inclusive for everyone who visits or works with us. To reach the UK Government’s Net Zero by 2050 pledge, we’ve committed to two sustainability programmes – Theatre Green Book (specific to our industry) and ISO 14001 (general environmental management excellence).
This update summarises how we have been improving our building, operations, and productions in line with theatre industry guidance, as well as how our actions up to April 2025 support our 10 Commitments to Sustainable Change. You can learn more about our Commitments and our Theatre Green Book Plan here. For the first time, we have included an estimate of our employee commuting emissions and dive into patterns in visitor travel both to the Hippodrome and our Festivals around the city.
This report shows how we have met Theatre Green Book’s first tier of action, Preliminary, and reveals exciting details about how we produced our amazing festivals and our new musical The Jingleclaw with less impact on the environment.
This covers just our first year of action and we are excited to share more in the future. Thank you for the support you’ve given our environmental work so far.
