A FREE weekend of outdoor arts for all the family

Birmingham’s major arts organisations are coming together to stage an ambitious weekend of free outdoor arts across Birmingham city centre.

Birmingham Weekender will bring the city to life with music, dance, theatre, art, literature, food and fashion across the city centre. From 25 – 27 September, the city will be transformed with wonderful sights and sounds for residents and city visitors, coinciding with the opening of the newly transformed New Street Station, theRugby World Cup and Style Birmingham Live.

Embrace the brilliance of local and international artists and discover something exciting around every corner, from dance performances at the top of the city’s car parks to drawing, dancing and creative learning for all the family. Enjoy a musical picnic in Victoria Square where an ensemble of Pakistani, Indian and Kashmiri musicians working with Jamaican reggae will create a new inter-cultural orchestra. Take part in dance inspired by New Zealand’s famous Haka, or try an introduction to ballet in Centenary Square.

Watch out for music, dance, roaming street-theatre and art popping up in shops and department stores with performances inside, outside… and even in shop windows.

As producer of ‘Birmingham Weekender’ and a member of Birmingham Arts Partnership, Birmingham Hippodrome will be presenting Maudit Sonnants by French Company Transe Express. Maudit Sonnants will fill Victoria Square on the Friday and Saturday evenings with a large-scale bewitching orchestra of bell ringers and acrobats, who are lifted skywards to perform a magical concert and outdoor theatre performance. And it’s all FREE!

Style Birmingham Live will ‘take fashion to the art’ with Fashion Shows throughout the weekend at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
