Festival Accessible Events

At our flagship festival for Accessibility, you can enjoy a variety of art forms including dance, circus, musical theatre, visual arts, poetry, sensory and immersive experiences, music and storytelling.

The only event that requires booking is the Luminarium. You can do this by clicking ‘More info’ on the event page below. You don’t need to book BSL interpretation, Audio Description Headsets or Accessible Viewing Points in advance – just ask one of our friendly Access Hosts or Volunteers if you need help finding these resources or email charlotteboyer@birminghamhippodrome.com to register your interest in advance.

Audio Described (AD)
Selected performances at Birmingham Weekender will include Audio Description for visually impaired audience members. Audio-Description for performance is live verbal commentary on the visual elements of a performance as it unfolds.

BSL British Sign Language Interpreted Performances (BSL)
BSL a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression and body language. There will be selected performances a Birmingham Weekender that include BSL. We will also have roaming interpreters at the festival to support your visit. Please contact charlotteboyer@birminghamhippodrome.com is this is something you require.

Relaxed Sessions (REL)
We will have selected Relaxed Sessions for some of our performances at Birmingham Weekender. These will include lower capacity and more staff on hand to support your experience. Some of our relaxed sessions will also include a facilitated sensory session.

Accessible Viewing Points (AVP)
Across the festival there will be Accessible Viewpoints on selected performances. These Accessible Viewpoints will be signposted and looked after by access hosts. These spaces are designed for wheelchair users, people who require seating to watch the performance and also those who might want to be in a quieter area to watch the performances.
