Yesterday (1 Nov), the cast of the hit children’s stage adaptation of Emily Brown and the Thing arrived in Birmingham to share free storytelling with children from across the city.

Ahead of a Christmas run at our Patrick Studio (17 Dec – 6 Jan), the cast of Emily Brown and the Thing hosted two sold-out free interactive storytelling sessions for young children and their families at Waterstones Birmingham and in the theatre foyers of Birmingham Hippodrome.

Families gathered to enjoy a free workshop where members of the cast colourfully brought the extremely popular children’s book, Emily Brown and the Thing, to life. The session at Birmingham Hippodrome was followed by a host of free craft activities including the chance for children to create their own monstrous Thing.

Created for the stage by Tall Stories (creators of The Gruffalo and The Snail and the Whale stage shows) Emily Brown and the Thing is an imaginative adaptation of the much-loved book by the award-winning duo Cressida Cowell (author of How to Train Your Dragon) and Neal Layton. Emily Brown and the Thing is one of a series of five books featuring the irrepressible Emily Brown.

The production has enjoyed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, across the UK and international engagements at the Sydney Opera House, in Melbourne, Brisbane, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Following the run in Birmingham the show will transfer to New York and embark on a North American tour in 2019.
