The New Work and Artist Development team are delighted to open applications for Craft, a beginners’ playwrighting programme at the Birmingham Hippodrome.
Craft is a series of workshops at the Hippodrome from February – June 2026, facilitated by leading dramaturg and script development expert Ola Animashawun. The sessions will focus on the foundations of writing for stage, including character, structure, form and themes. There will then be the opportunity for each writer to receive one-to-one feedback on a script extract.
If you’ve been thinking about writing for the stage, and would like to join a cohort of writers getting to grips with the fundamentals of playwrighting, we would love to read your application.
No experience or script extract is necessary, and artists of all disciplines who are interested in playwrighting are welcome.

Craft has given me the push I needed to continue writing.
Working with Ola and to be in a room with other like-minded Creatives was incredible!
