Hit the Ode is a unique performance poetry night bringing world-class spoken word artists to the heart of Birmingham to perform alongside open micers.
The brilliant big Brummy March line-up will feature the following guests:
Theresa Lola is a British Nigerian poet, writer, editor and creative strategist based in London. Her writing focuses around themes of memory, home, well-being, nostalgia and familial relationships. Theresa was featured in the September 2019 issue of British Vogue, which celebrated ‘forces for change’ and her debut poetry collection ‘In Search of Equilibrium’ has been described as extraordinary.
Safiya Kinshasa is an interdisciplinary poet of Barbadian heritage who has won multiple national championships, including the UK Hammer & Tongue championships and the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Award. In 2021, Safiya started a free poetry programme in Barbados which offers professional lessons teaching a variety of techniques, form and poetry around the world and across time.
DJ Psykhomantus bridges the gap and connects the dots between Hip Hop and other progressive music genres as well as showcasing the whole spectrum of Turntablism. He aims to take his listeners on a musical journey and his love of music shines through in everything he does on two turntables and a mixer.
John Bernard is a Coventry based Poet, Rapper & Writer who uses his artistry to inspire, influence and invigorate his listeners with meaningful messages. His work commentates on social issues, youth empowerment, faith and purpose. Distinctive delivery, commanding voice, an intricate lyricist his content is authentically raw and potent. He has undoubtedly carved a lane for himself infusing Spoken Word poetry, Alternative-Rap and Neo-Soul.
