Five exceptional dancers compete in the Grand Final of BBC Young Dancer 2019. Anita Rani and Ore Oduba present from Birmingham Hippodrome.
The finalists will perform in front of an audience and a judging panel comprised of leading figures from the UK dance sector. Competing for the title are the winners from the South Asian Dance, Contemporary, Ballet and Street Dance Finals, together with one dancer awarded the judges ‘wildcard’ place.
The panel for the Grand Final includes:
- Emma Gladstone – Artistic Director & Chief Executive of Dance Umbrella
- Wayne McGregor – Founder of Studio Wayne McGregor and Resident Choreographer at The Royal Ballet
- Shobana Jeyasingh – Founder of Shobana Jeyasingh Dance
- BBoy Junior – Dancer, teacher, and member of Wanted Posse crew
- Chitra Sundaram – Dance and Theatre choreographer, performer and educator
- Christopher Hampson – Artistic Director and Chief Executive at Scottish Ballet
For the Grand Final each dancer has been paired with a leading choreographer to create a brand new solo work for the occasion. They will also perform a solo and duet from their existing repertoire. At the end of the evening one will be named BBC Young Dancer 2019, joining previous winners Connor Scott and Nafisah Baba.
