Sumptuous, captivating, mind-blowing...Sparkling Sunset is a five-star hit!
“With one look I can break your heart
With one look I play every part”
Norma Desmond, Sunset Boulevard
The spirit of Hollywood is alive and well in Birmingham this week as we welcomed West End leading lady Ria Jones and Strictly sensation Danny Mac in the Tony award-winning musical Sunset Boulevard; a compelling story of romance, obsession and betrayal based on the legendary film by Billy Wilder of the same name.
An overwhelming response from our first night audience in Birmingham. Thanks to all at @brumhippodrome last night for the superb welcome.@SunsetBlvdUK is here all week! pic.twitter.com/hDJQcKbjDE

Channelling the glamour and sophistication of Hollywood’s golden era, guests at last night’s sparkling press night reception enjoyed a taste of the red carpet treatment with pop-up film studio-turned selfie-station, pop corn and their very own ‘Golden envelope’ on arrival. On hand to share more about Birmingham’s fascinating links to the silver screen were our neighbours, The Electric Cinema, whilst Vintage Make-up artist Sarah Russell treated guests to a masterclass in 1940s victory rolls…all in under 15 minutes!
With the five-star reviews already flying in, it’s safe to say that Midlands audiences are captivated by Ria Jones’ star-turn as Norma Desmond, not to mention leading man Danny Mac, who takes up the role of Norma’s disillusioned love interest Joe Gillis.
Here’s just a taster of some of our favourite reactions so far…

“Sumptuous… Ria Jones uncannily channels Gloria Swanson and gives a bravura re-interpetation of Norma Desmond… and witness the birth of musical theatre’s newest leading man in Danny Mac .”
