Birmingham Hippodrome’s Young Community Drop-In Sessions have been developed by our Young Advocates.
We’re back with some more free workshops to help carve out your creative career, this time with a spooky twist!
On Friday 31 October, we’re bringing some of the best professionals in the creative industry to Birmingham Hippodrome for our final Young Community Drop In of 2025.
Open to any young person aged 14+, expect a number of exciting workshops run by leading professionals in their fields. These are workshops for those wanting to try something new or to develop their skills further, learning from the best and taking your next step into the world of creativity.
For this, Halloween-inspired drop in, we’ll have workshops that explore Writing for Horror, Spooky Musical Theatre Song Rep and SFX Makeup alongside Mindful Crafting and Glitter Facepainting. So whether you’re into Musical Theatre, Writing or Prosthetics – there really is something for everyone, come and try something new!
Feel free to add a eerie element to your outfit, we’d love to see some spiders, fangs or ghouls!
Our Young Community Drop Ins are designed for young people to experience things they’ve never thought about or tried before and a chilled sociable environment.
And as always, this event is completely FREE, there’s snacks, crafts and lots of fun – arrival from 11.45am for the first workshop!

Spooky Musical Theatre Song Rep with Bat Out Of Hell Star Sophie-Rose Emery
Sophie-Rose Emery is a local Musical Theatre Actress who has recently finished playing Scherzzo and 1st cover Raven & Valkyrie in the 2025 UK Tour of Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical. Join Sophie, who will share her experiences, knowledge and power house vocals in her Bat Out Of Hell inspired Song Workshop!
SFX Makeup with Millissa Morris
Join Millissa, founder of Black Diamonds Creations, and Prosthetics and SFX Makeup expert to learn all about creating spine-chilling makeup and wounds!
Black Diamonds Creations specialize in hyper-realistic trauma prosthetics and jaw-dropping SFX, they serve filmmakers, theatres, and educators who demand artistry that bleeds authenticity.
Writing for Horror with Sammy
Join Sammy, a Birmingham based horror producer, writer and curator with extensive knowledge and experience in the horror genre spanning theatre, digital exhibitions and screen. In this workshop you will explore what the genre of Horror can look like and have a go at creating your own spooky scripts and stories!
Crafts with Bobbie Petford
Bobbie is back! Bobbie will be helping you to create two different styles of craft:
• Diwali Inspired
• Spooky Inspired
All of which you can take away! As always, this space will be mindful and calm.
Glitter Face Painting with Sian
Sian Patterson is an extremely talented face painter, with a special skill in glitter/gem designs, so come and get some scary, yet beautiful designs on your face!
