Here at Birmingham Hippodrome our two Front of House lifts are currently getting a well-earned upgrade to enable future generations of theatre lovers move around the building with ease. Due to this essential work, we will be operating at a reduced service until mid-December 2025.

These works fall under the Hippodrome Tomorrow strand of our Five-Year Plan to ensure that our 125-year-old venue remains fit for the people of Birmingham and the West Midlands for many years to come.

If you require the use of a lift for your visit, we kindly ask that you please allow plenty of time for your arrival. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this time.

To help you plan your next visit, we have included some essential information about the lift works below.

What is happening?

Our two Front of House lifts are being receiving new hydraulics and cylinders, as well as refurbishments being carried out internally to the lift cars. The work will take place over 22 weeks (11 weeks per lift). During the work only one lift will be functioning at a time while the other is being upgraded.

How will the lift works impact my visit?

Due to only one lift working at a time, we ask that customers who require the use of a lift for your visit to allow plenty of time to arrive while we operate reduced service. Our fantastic teams of volunteers will be around to help you during your visit.

How long will the works take?

The work is already underway and will continue until mid-December, with an aim to be completed before this year’s Pantomime Robin Hood. The engineers will work on one lift at a time so that there will always be one lift available for use.

Why are you carrying out these works?

Our current lift system is now 25 years old and to enable future generations to move around our theatre with ease, we are investing in our building.

Who is completing the work?

Ansa Elevators are completing the works.
