Shake off winter and welcome the spring!

In February half-term, we ran free holiday workshops inspired by Asian legends and New Year traditions from across the world.

There was something for everyone, with activities suitable for all ages and all abilities each day.

Here’s what’s went on during the week…

Mon 19 Feb               10.30am – 3pm

Artists: Haruka Kuroda & Gavin Young

Join Haruka Kuroda, regular presenter on CBBC’s Officially Amazing and soon to be appearing in the show ‘The Little Mochi Man’ in our Patrick Studio on Sat 24 Feb.

Find out all about mochi and how New Year is celebrated in Japan, then try your hand at making your own mochi out of washi! Washi is a traditional Japanese paper, and you will be able to decorate your washi mochi just like The Little Mochi Man in the show and take it home with you.

Join Gavin Young, master storyteller, for fables and fun…

Japanese Trickster Tales: Earth will shake, wind will blow, fire will below and the waters will rise up to meet you in Japanese Trickster Tales full of adventure, faeries, feminine power and flatulence!

Samurai Sudoku Storytelling Workshops: Discover the storytelling warrior in you as you uncover layer upon layer of stories in your own imagination in a game of chance and skill!

Wed 21 Feb               10.30am – 3pm

Artists: Pyn Stockman and Cordeillia Cooper

Join storyteller Pyn Stockman for a lively, interactive storytelling adventure this half term! Mythical beasts, wild voyages and wonder filled tales will be brought to life through words, props, puppets and masks, with plenty of opportunities to join in!

Today, Pyn will tell you stories including the Chinese Zodiac story, trickster tales and monkey stories, and the Chinese version of Cinderella…

PLUS join Cordeillia Cooper to make your own colourful Chinese lantern or magical wand to take home with you.

Thu 22 Feb                10.30am – 12.30pm

Artists: Gavin Young and Cordeillia Cooper

Join Gavin Young for Dragon’s Tales – Fly around in the east, from Mongolia to Thailand, China to Japan, in the tales of magic, mystery and monstrous mayhem!

Have a go at exciting animal-themed craft activities with Cordeillia Cooper, including mask-making!

Fri 23 Feb                  10.30am – 3pm

Artists: Pyn Stockman and Cordeillia Cooper

Join storyteller Pyn Stockman for a lively, interactive storytelling adventure this half term! Mythical beasts, wild voyages and wonder filled tales will be brought to life through words, props, puppets and masks, with plenty of opportunities to join in!
