Did you spot the stars of Kinky Boots at Birmingham PRIDE 2018?
Just be. Who you wanna be.
Never let them tell you who you ought to be.
Just be. With dignity.
Celebrate your life triumphantly.
As well as being an outrageously funny and feel-good night at the theatre – Kinky Boots is all about acceptance, community spirit and having the courage to take pride in who you really are. As one of the show’s sassiest numbers states…”You can change the world when you change your mind”
So what better way to celebrate Birmingham Pride’s coming-of-age on 26-27 May than with an exclusive live appearance from the cast of the award-winning musical smash-hit, which visits Birmingham Hippodrome from Mon 11 – Sat 23 March.
Strutting their stuff in the UKs second city, members of the Kinky Boots cast were joined by representatives from the Birmingham Hippodrome team aboard a fabulous float complete with scarlet accessories, sassy show soundtrack on this year’s Pride Parade, which was attended by over 40,000 people.
This was followed by a high-energy performance of ‘Land of Lola’ by Lola and her Angels in the Cabaret Marquee of the Pride festival featuring the magnificent Jemal Felix as Lola and Jak Allen-Anderson, George Grayson, Luke Jackson and Ben Sell as Angels.
We’ve pulled together a selection of our favourite social media moments from when Birmingham PRIDE got ‘Kinky’ below….

Kinky Boots has become a favourite with UK theatre-goers having won three Olivier Awards for Best New Musical, Best Costume Design and Best Actor in a Musical for Matt Henry who played Lola. Kinky Boots also won the London Evening Standard BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical as well as three WhatsOnStage Awards for Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical and Best Choreography.
With a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles), and songs by Grammy® and Tony® winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind.
Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots takes you from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.
With direction and choreography by two-time Tony® Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray), Kinky Boots is the winner of every major Best Musical award including three Olivier Awards, three WhatsOnStage Awards as well as six Broadway Tony® Awards.
