We’re absolutely delighted to announce full details of our sensational spring season of shows, festivals and free events taking place across our stages and surrounding streets..

Newly announced productions on the Main Stage include the “fabulously sassy and uplifting” (Time Out) Kinky Boots which will be strutting its stuff across the UK in its first ever tour in 2019; Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s award-winning musical Calendar Girls; Matthew Bourne’s genre-defying staging of the classic Swan Lake,  and the return of Cameron Mackintosh’s breathtaking  Les Miserables (on sale at a later date).

At the same time, the Patrick Studio continues to grow its reputation as a thriving hub for world-class dance, drama and family-friendly shows, offering an alternative to large-scale productions on the Hippodrome’s Main Stage.

FIONA ALLAN, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome said:

“Either side of our summer blockbuster Matilda are some musicals never before seen at the Hippodrome. The première season of An Officer and a Gentlemen will take you back to the 80s, whilst the award-winning Titanic The Musical, on its first regional voyage in the UK, tells the famous story from the perspective of real travellers. Taj Express is Bollywood at its best – crazy, colourful and high energy, featuring songs of Slumdog Millionaire’s A. R. Rahman. I didn’t realise I knew so many until I saw this show in London last year.

“Meanwhile, our Patrick Studio programme continues to expand, and offers everyone a chance to try something different. Our increased investment in smaller scale dance and movement, theatre, family-friendly shows and more means the Patrick Studio is rapidly becoming THE space to experience edgy and alternative live performance. Rosie Kay’s latest multimedia work MK Ultra, Javaad Alipoor’s simply extraordinary Edinburgh fringe hit The Believers Are But Brothers, and Seeta Patel’s Not Today’s Yesterday all question where truth really lies. Appropriate for our troubled times.

“And of course, all of the support we receive – from ticket sales, donations and memberships to room hire and ice-cream sales – helps to fund the work of Hippodrome Projects. This includes all of our own curated and commissioned programme of indoor and outdoor performance, community work and transformational learning projects, helping to ensure that we can continue to bring even more unforgettable live experiences to audiences across the West Midlands and beyond.
