The Hippodrome Associates programme supports exciting established artists and companies to achieve their artistic ambitions by helping them to develop their work into a larger scale, explore new areas of practice and reach new and wider audiences.
Each relationship is bespoke, created in response to the shared ambitions and priorities of Birmingham Hippodrome and the Hippodrome Associate.

Aakash Odedra Company
Based in Leicester, Aakash Odedra Company creates dance works through a unique synthesis of Kathak, contemporary and Bollywood-Jazz.
In 2020, Birmingham Hippodrome is co-producing and presenting a new work, Samsara, performed by Aakash Odedra and Hu Shenyuan in our auditorium. The work will preview at Bunjil Place, Australia ahead of its world premiere at Asia YOPA and Asia premiere at Shanghai International Dance Center, China. Rosie Kay Dance Company creates brave new dance in Birmingham. Birmingham Hippodrome supports choreographer Rosie Kay to upscale her work for large-scale theatres.
In 2019, Rosie’s seminal work 5 Soldiers was reimagined as 10 Soldiers which premiered on our main stage and then went to the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and Edinburgh Festival Theatre. Alongside the premiere, a one-off performance took place in our foyers with a volunteer cast of 120.
Other productions supported by the Hippodrome include MK ULTRA and Fantasia, the latter which is currently on tour. Next we will be co-commissioning a modern take on Romeo & Juliet that will be seen on our stage in 2021.
Sonia Sabri Company
Sonia Sabri Company is a dynamic company based in Birmingham which has established an international reputation for presenting Kathak dance in a contemporary context.
Same, Same but Different is a playful family work that brings together Kathak and contemporary dance for children aged 5 years and over. The work was co-commissioned by Birmingham Hippodrome and is touring the UK in 2020.
