The cast of the spellbinding children’s show, Emily Brown and the Thing, bring free storytelling to Birmingham this half term.

This half term, ahead of a Christmas run at Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Studio (17 Dec – 6 Jan), the cast of Emily Brown and the Thing will be hosting two free interactive storytelling sessions for young children and their families on Thursday 1 November.

Beginning at 11am in the Birmingham Hippodrome foyer, young children are invited to join the cast for a free workshop where members of the cast will read and share scenes from the extremely popular children’s book, Emily Brown and the Thing. The session will be followed by a host of free craft activities including the chance for children to create their own monstrous Thing. Visitors are asked to arrive on the day and head for level 3.

The cast will then head out to Waterstones Birmingham for another session, colourfully bringing the story to life amongst the bookstore’s Children’s section. The performance begins at 1pm on the Third Floor and free tickets can be booked on the Waterstones website here. Please note that the Waterstones session has now sold out – do join us at the theatre from 11am on 1 Nov.

Created for the stage by Tall Stories (creators of The Gruffalo and The Snail and the Whale stage shows) Emily Brown and the Thing is an imaginative adaptation of the much-loved book by the award-winning duo Cressida Cowell (author of How to Train Your Dragon) and Neal Layton. Emily Brown and the Thing is one of a series of five books featuring the irrepressible Emily Brown.

The production has enjoyed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, across the UK and international engagements at the Sydney Opera House, in Melbourne, Brisbane, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Following the run at the Birmingham Hippodrome the show will transfer to New York and embark on a North American tour in 2019.

Emily Brown and the Thing runs at The Patrick Studio, Birmingham Hippodrome from Monday 17 December 2018 – Sunday 6 Jan 2019 – click here for more information and to book tickets.
