A few weeks ago we had a record number of visitors for our Relaxed Performance of Cinderella, with 2,300 happy faces passing through our auditorium doors. This was not only the highest number of attendees for us but also the first time we had put on two Relaxed Performances in one day!

Our Relaxed Performances are created for people with special needs who may find the theatre challenging. This includes people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, learning disability, or sensory and communication disorder. In 2017, we staged more Relaxed Performances than ever before and have some special productions planned for 2018.

We had a great reaction from our many visitors on the day:

The day was not only a hit with audiences but also a rewarding day for our volunteers and supporters. Have a look at what people had to say…

Eileen Doyle, Volunteer and Birmingham Hippodrome Patron said: “It’s a privilege to work alongside the staff at Birmingham Hippodrome. The team are dedicated to ensuring everyone who visits the theatre, no matter their access requirements, is fully supported. That energy and dedication is quite infectious.  I’ve had such a wonderful time again this year supporting the Relaxed Performances.

“I’ve shown visitors to their seats, (I’m getting really good at the seating plan, definitely nailed the stalls and the first circle), I’ve distributed stress-busting toys, sorted out audio headsets and supported parents and their children to fully participate in the show.”

We couldn’t have done any of this without you! If you would like to donate to help us create even more magical memories, please visit here.
