As part of Birmingham Weekender and Utsav festivals, Birmingham Hippodrome and the The Lions of Punjab are offering FREE Dhol drumming and Bhangra workshops.

This Midlands based Bhangra dance group know their Bhangra! With over 85 years of experience collectively, their energy is unique. They have performed alongside some of Bhangra and Bollywood’s biggest artists such as Sukhshinder Shinda, Jazzy B, and Diljit Dosanjh. The company have taught numerous workshops and worked with hundreds of participants across the West Midlands.

The workshops are in advance of performances by the Lions at Birmingham Weekender which will see the Clash of Drums spectacular light up the evening sky at Eastside Green, Birmingham city centre. During the workshops, The Lions of Punjab will introduce participants to the high energy folk dance which is performed to the beats of the dhol, tumbi, algozey and folk singing ‘boliyan.’ Using authentic Dhol Drums, participants of all ages and standards will also have the opportunity to explore this exciting style of drumming. At the end of the hour long workshop, participants will practice their skills and perform a mini routine.
