Stars of Carole King Musical drop into England’s Oldest Surviving Record Store!

After topping the charts with audiences and critics alike last year, Birmingham Hippodrome is thrilled to welcome back Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, for an extra week, running until 3 Feb.

Starring vocal powerhouse and star of I’d Do Anything, Bronte Barbe, in the coveted role of Carole King, the much-acclaimed musical scored an instant hit with Birmingham audiences during its week-long residency in Birmingham last November.

Telling the inspiring true story of one ordinary girls’ extraordinary journey from unknown songwriter to chart-topping success, Beautiful charts Carole’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.

Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, and Locomotion.

To celebrate the show’s return to Birmingham for a second successful week, Beautiful’s Bronte Barbe, Kane Oliver Parry, Adam Howden, Khalid Daley and Matt Millstook took a trip to The Diskery in Southside – the oldest surviving record store in England – for photos, interviews and to learn more about Birmingham’s proud recording history.
