What's On > Fiddler on the Roof

Tue 11 - Sat 15 Mar 2014 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

One of the most popular and beloved of all stage musicals.

Music & Lyrics in association with The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton present
Directed and Choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood
Starring Paul Michael Glaser as Tevye
From the award-winning producers of The King and I and High Society comes a new production of one of the world’s favourite musicals, directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, the nation’s favourite Strictly Come Dancing judge and master of the musical stage and starring the celebrated and acclaimed actor, director and writer, Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky in the iconic 70s TV series Starsky & Hutch) in the lead role ofTevye.
Tevye, the local milkman in his village of Anatevka, has always stuck by his traditions but suddenly his head strong daughters decide that they want to marry for love rather than accept whatever Yente the Matchmaker comes up with. Tevye loves his daughters but has to convince his wife, and the villagers, that their decisions are actually falling in with tradition – not any easy thing to do but if anyone can do it, the wily Tevye can!
Filled to the brim with classic songs like If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset and To Life, Fiddler On The Roof was the longest running production on Broadway for over 13 years and when you join Tevye, his family and friends, you will understand why.

I just had a wonderful time with my daughter Rosemarie. We just been to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Hippodrome. All the cast were outstanding and my god Paul Michael Glaser is a brilliant actor and a very humble man , one of the bests shows i have seen.

Well, what a fantastic show! Such an incredibly talented group of performers. Every one of them was a star, with spellbinding performances. Magical to see the actors playing the instruments whilst acting, dancing and/or singing. The interpretation of the story was lovely, the scenery and lighting and costumes were great. PMG was incredible as Tevye, such a wonderful performance, such a brilliant actor. Craig Revell Horwood's direction and choreography was excellent. All in all, a fantastic show, bursting with talent. Awesome! Only one disappointment... we went round to the stage door afterwards in the hope of meeting PMG (I adored Starsky in my youth!!), only to be told he wouldn't be coming out :-( Gutted! Aaah well, can't have everything and after that performance, I can't say I'm surprised he needed a rest...just soooo disappointed!! Well done everyone - those on stage and behind the scenes - fantastic job! Thank you all!

Wow!!! Was there last night on the opening night at Bham Hip! Unfortunately for some travel was disrupted by m6 accident so a few came late and missed the start. However, I love this story and how it was portrayed on stage did it justice. PMG...you was brilliant. What a role to live up to that Topol did on screen however your ability to portray the papa was fan blommin tastic of want of a better brummie expression!. The whole cast was amazing and the set up was just to my liking. Never seen a show where the actors play the instruments. What a clever thing to do!! CRH..you are so good at what you do. I love you on Strictly all tv and flowers etc etc, however you shine doing what you love. Well done to all cast and crew. Good show my lovelies...Good show!!!!
