Great show, Julian Clary was fantastic and Keith Harris and Cuddles were hilarious. Joan Collins was wooden, delivered her lines with no charisma. Still loved it though a great family few hours fun.
Gaynor Pegg \\ 30/01/2011
my wife and i went last night and had a wonderful evening of great music, dance and comedy.all the cast members were fantastic,it was a real joy and privilage to see such stars of stage and screen, joan collins was brilliant, stunningly beautiful, amazing for her age,and i hope she will do panto again.thankyou for keeping the magic alive,to all cast, crew, and staff, bravo.
jonathan parker \\ 29/01/2011
A first class pantomine. Three generations of our family enjoyed todays matinee performance. Keith Harris and Orville and Julian Clary were so entertaining. Joan Collins exceeded our expectations - can't believe we have seen her in a "pantomime"!! Loved our afternoon of laughter - looking forward to next year already!
sarah millner \\ 29/01/2011
fantastic so funny, took my gandchildren aged between 5 & 15. to get the five yr old to sit still for tha amount of time is a miracle but he did. Very funny loved Julian & keith & Orville & joan looks fab. ery clever writing kept us all entertained well done come back soon !!!
kay ohanlon \\ 29/01/2011
went on tue 25th jan, the show was amazing Julian Clary was soooo funny!!! really enjoyed it, will definitely go again, a fab day out! : )
ema \\ 26/01/2011
Absoloutly fantastic! Julian sure knows how to work the audience and Nigel is just amazing as King Rat! Not forgetting the innuendos that go over the kids heads! Kieth and Orville are hilarious and theirs, julians and the fantastic joan's entrances are the best I have seen! 10/10! With all the gags that nigel makes and Juliens dry humour this is a not stop laughing experience. The set is fantastic and Julians 20 (at least!) Costumes are beautiful. Being a 14 year old I really enjoyed it and it is definatly one for the adults yet orville entertains the kids! Best one comedy wise yet!
Sam Beech \\ 26/01/2011
What a fantastic show! Superb cast and excellently staged - we had a ball! YOu couldn't have done better and all of the cast were a delight to watch - lets do it all again!
Paul Graham \\ 24/01/2011
We went to the matinee performance on Saturday 22/1/2011. Although I did enjoy the show & the casts performance I think my grandchildren ( Aged 7 & 9 ) were a little disappointed because a lot of it went over their heads with the jokes, etc. They were not born when Dallas was on the telly. Keith Harris, Orville & Cuddles saved part of the day with a terrific performance. Over the years we have attended the Panto's at the Hippodrome & it is becoming apparant that the emphasis is going away from interaction with the kids especially at a matinee performance. Apart from Keith Harris I don't think the other members of the cast interacted with the kids very well. We will be back again next year & just hope its a better experience for my grandchildren. We live in hope !
Peter Wilkins \\ 24/01/2011
It was a very professional show - some great lighting and pyro effects along with a good band. Along with virtually every other person who's reviewed the show, Keith, Orville and Cuddles were highlights - not just for the nostalgia of it all but because it's so obvious that Keith Harris is truly gifted, loves doing what he does and gives 100%. There were some very funny lines and we were very glad we made the trip from the South Coast!
Jonathan & Suzanne \\ 23/01/2011
I have just seen the show and it was fabulous! The costumes are amazing, Joan is stunning, Nigel is fantastic, Julian is an absolute scream. The comedy banter between him and Keith is classic. I didn't stop laughing from start to finish. The actor and actress playing 'Dick' and 'Alice' have out of this world voices. Watch out for the local children, they are amazing, especially one little boy doing 'Proud Mary' Fab!
The Webbs \\ 23/01/2011

saw the opening performance joans first panto and mine! theatre was half empty because of heavy snow and in one of her first numbers joans wig got caught in a rats whisker (honestly) no problem for la collins who i am sure has disentangled herself from many a rat. loved my first panto wonder if joan collins did.
jan \\ 12/01/2011
we saw dick whittington. I liked orville and cuddles. They were funny and made me laugh.
chloe- worcester \\ 10/01/2011
I love this show because the costumes were wonderful. The actors made me laugh!!!! i liked the part when the actors came on the stage at the end of the show to take a bow.
Arianne from Worcester \\ 10/01/2011
Julian Clary and Keith Harris provided a fantastic night out, well supported by Nigel Havers and the cast. Julian's timing and stage presence just has to make you laugh and his reputation for innuendo is enough to keep the audience laughing. Keith, Orville and in particular Cuddles had the whole party laughing 'til it hurt. Sadly Pantomime is not one of Joan Collin's strengths. Those other reviewers who were "unlucky" enough to miss her performance shouldn't complain.
stuart h \\ 10/01/2011
I saw matinee performance on the 6 January, really loved it!!! Joan Collins was AMAZING!! She looks really fabulous and her performance was just a star quality. Thank you Joan!!!
Lilia \\ 09/01/2011

Absolutely fantastic!! We always book at the beginning of the year for the next one as we know the Pantos are NEVER a disappointment. Very funny, entertaining etc…can’t stress enough. Julian Clary was outstanding!!! Thoroughly enjoyed…
Rash \\ 07/01/2011
Came on the 28th December to see Dick Whittington with my two teenagers ... What an excellent show!!! Singing superb, dancing excellent, costumes and colours beautiful. Was disappointed not to see Joan Collins but understudy was very very good. Great to see Nigel Havers and the "I'm a celeb" references all in good fun. BUT .. the stars of the show undoubtedly Keith Harris & Orville & Cuddles - so, so funny, much better than I ever expected and the ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT JULIAN CLARY -he was the real STAR of the show, very, very funny and the titanic scene was brilliant! Really glad we came, we all laughed so much at these two fantastic entertainers. JULIAN & KEITH VERY WELL DONE - you made it worth every penny - brilliant night.
elaine dupree \\ 06/01/2011
We have been coming to the pantomime, and other shows through the year, for more years that I care to remember, and every year it is the highlight of Christmas. This year did not disappoint! All of the cast were superb, especially Julian Clary and Keith Harris, and I don't think that Joan Collins was missed. Now that our kids have grown up and left home we three pensioners will continue to come every year and shout, scream and laugh along with all the other children.
Martin Stevenson \\ 05/01/2011
Still laughing at Julian Clary in and out of the water. Keith/Orville/Cuddles and Nigel were also brilliant throughout. The show is expertly put together with excellent staging/props/ costumes and a great balance of plot, musical numbers and gags. Not just a Panto but variety entertainment at its best.
G Smith \\ 05/01/2011
julian clary stole the show he was brillant was very disappointed that joan collins was not there due to being ill has we was all looking forward to seeing her.The under study who took her place was very good 10 out of 10 to him well done to them all.The cumiskys
The cumiskys \\ 05/01/2011
Fantastic. My daughter and 2 children came to the matinee performance 22.12.10. It was the day 'Our Joanie' was ill. Wayne was brilliant! Even carrying the script, he managed to put the character acrooss. Well done. Julian was outstanding, as ever. His delivery is so dry and the timing spot on. Congratulations on another great year.
Christine Jacks \\ 05/01/2011
What a fabulous pantomine. Haven't laughed so much in years. Julian Clary was excellent,so funny, a class act along with Nigel Havers. Costumes were lovely, scenery, stage settings and lets not forget Orville, Cuddles and Keith Harris, great entertainment that suits all the family. Worth every penny.
Gaynor Powers \\ 05/01/2011
A brilliant pantomine with fantastic actors both well known and not so known. Julian Clary completely stole the show with Keith Harris and Orville a close 2nd! Joan Collins is amazing given she had been poorly - she looked so glamorous and I wish I had such fabulous legs as she does! Dick Whitingdon had something for everyone in it so it doesn't matter what age you are go and see this show if you can possibly get tickets. We had the VIP option so that meant we had a fabulous meal too - well worth every single pound.
Ann Skidmore \\ 05/01/2011
Watched this panto on New years Eve. Very good show and would certainly recommend it to anyone. Julian Clary was very funny and so was Keith Harris and Orville. Nigel Havers was also brilliant along with the rest of the cast. It was a shame Joan Collins was ill but her understudy was excellent. The costumes, set and the music was very well done. It was a delight to watch.
Stephanie Barnett \\ 05/01/2011
I DRAGGED my husband to see this - (complaining that pantomines are for kids ) BUT he loved it!! For me Julian Clary was the star -his arrival was BRILLIANT ( i don't want to give the game away )and he really is FANTASTIC!! Keith Harris and Orville were also extremely funny. My husband is looking forward to next years panto now and is talking about taking his mates along too !!
Julie Evans \\ 05/01/2011
"Can we watch it again?" - my 3 year old's comment on leaving the show at 10pm! I would have happily obliged - if they were performing again that night! My son won these tickets and I would just like to thank the Hippodrome for a superb evening. I agree with all the positive comments regarding Julian Clary's amazing performance. This was my children's first encounter with Keith Harris and Orville and they really engaged with the act. From an adult's perspective, the costumes, sets and lighting were exceptional, with glorious, sumptuous colour schemes running throughout. The dramatic use of the costume at the end of the first act, was fantastic. Overall, a brilliant performance, enjoyed by members of our family aged 3 to 71!
CGN \\ 05/01/2011
Saw the panto on New Years Eve with my family, it was absolutely brilliant, we are still laughing about Julian Clary being left in bed with Orville the Duck!! Beautiful sets, costumes, great family fun, unbeatable to see the New Year in, thank you for a great night!!!
Michelle Allen \\ 05/01/2011
Excellent pantomime, Julian Clary was superb and so were Keith Harris and Orville. Nigel Havers was also very good. We were disappointed not to see Joan Collins but having read the reviews I don't think we missed much! Julian Clary really stole the show.
michelle \\ 05/01/2011
brilliant panto as always,we went on tues 28th and unfortunately joan collins was ill and could not appear but her stand in did a superb job. julian clary is brilliant and his bed scene with orville had us in stitches. all the cast were superb and it was a thoroughly entertaining and professional show. we'l be back next christmas!
gill emery \\ 05/01/2011
Thank goodness for Julian Clary. Hilarious. Was very disappointed that having booked tickets so early in May not to see Joan Collins on stage as she was poorly. Keith Harris was brill too.
Suzanne \\ 04/01/2011
Julian Clary was truly the star of your show and entertained even a hard to please 15 yr old. I have never been a Keith Harris fan but I have changed my mind after his entertaining performance. Costumes were exceptional and the dancers brilliant. Joan Collins didnt seem to be able to act on a stage and was a great disappointment to all of our party but Julian made up for it.
Jasmin \\ 04/01/2011
having battled through the snow (a 3 hour journey to get there normally 45 mins) was very dissappointed not to see Joan Collins as that was the whole point especially for my mother . However Julian Clary was fabulous as were the rest of the cast
julia \\ 04/01/2011
I went with my wife and grown-up son to see Dick Whittington last Wednesday evening, 29th December. We all thoroughly enjoyed the performance. We were disappointed that Joan Collins was not able to appear - but, that said, we were not in the least disappointed with the show. Both my wife and I would like to congratulate Julian Clary and Keith Harris on their superb performances - they absolutely made the show. Nigel Havers was also brilliant as King Rat. The costumes were stunning and the sets spectacular - so congrats too to all the designers and artists who were responsible for their production. To sum up: it was FIRST CLASS ENTERTAINMENT - Great! Great! Great!
Graeme R, Stratford-upon-Avon \\ 04/01/2011
It was brilliant my granddaughter was enthralled with orville, She eight and had never seen him before. Julian Clarey was as good as ever. The cast were great but very disappointed not to have seen Joan Collins has she was ill.
Sheila Messenger \\ 04/01/2011
Really enjoyed the show. The cast were all brilliant. It was the first panto for my 10 year old daughter and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Julian Clary was particularly fab .
Jenny Byrne \\ 04/01/2011
Last Week on Sunday 2nd January we went to see dick whittington and i like Mory the cat , The Duck and the Monkey it was funny they sang.. Bob the builder and Teletubbies from CBEEBIES it was Good Story and we can see you agian soon when we see you at on any years you can put on. I am 11 Years old i wish i can be a the stage because i like being on stage to per-formance and we hop to have fun!
Sukhpreet Bath  \\ 04/01/2011
I have seen about 30 pantomimes in the last 40 years, and I have had the privilege of having seen all the greats, and now Julian Clary is at the top of the contempary list, which includes; Joe Pasquale, John Barrowman and Brian Conley! Clary is simply brilliant! Keith Harris and Orville were also superb in this year's Dick Whittington. The lesser known leads were outstanding, and Nigel Havers did a fine acting job, however Joan Collins was not at her villainous best, and was obviously coming down with the flu on the 19th!Her role was not entirely necessary, and the panto will not have detracted by her absence. I think pantos should be left to the 'professional' panto actor/dancer/singer/comedian! And the producers of the Birmingham panto are second to none! P.S. Glad the novelty toys and the public humiliation of the kids on stage have gone
V.N \\ 04/01/2011
Loved the show and cast- except Joan Collins- very disappointing. We had a great time as usual for our Boxing Day treat- our kids still love to come even though they are in their 20's
Carole \\ 04/01/2011
Julian Clary and Orville stole the show. without them it would have been a bit flat. But They were Great!! THE WHOLE FAMILY ENJOYED IT.
The Kerrs \\ 04/01/2011
Have been coming to the or Christmas Show at the Hippodrome for over 25years. Another excellent production with wonderful casting and this year Julian Clarey and Keith Harris stole the show. My disappointment was at the matinee on 28th December 2011 Joan Collins was taken ill and she is somebody I did want to see in the show with all the panto's I watch. Nigel Havers was good but he had to act against an understudy for Joan which turned out to be one of the male chorus and the script that Nigel had would have been alot better with Joan in the show. I was disappointed that I was not given the chance to rebook prior to the performance commenced but there has to be rules!
Chris Knight \\ 04/01/2011
We saw dick Whittington on the 23rd December and despite challenging weather conditions, we arrived and were so disappointed to learn that Joan Collins had gone down with the 'flu. However, we were not disappointd and have to say that Julian Clary stole the show as well as Orville. Nigel Havers was excellent too. The costumes were fantastic . Can thoroughly recommend it for both children and adults. Jenny & Vicky
Jenny Roden and Vicky Dutton \\ 04/01/2011
Brill show worth every penny cast were great and clothes were brill love dthe kids reaction with nigel havers and julilian was best yet xxx Ruth
Ruth Gibbins \\ 04/01/2011
The people who were disappointed not to see Joan Collins as she was ill were the lucky ones! Her performance was very disappointing, very wooden and apparent it was her first pantomime. She gave the impression that the audience were lucky to see her! Having said that, all the other cast, especially Julian Clary and Keith/Orville, Jeffrey Holland and Nigel Havers were excellent and stole the show. Keith/Orville definitely need to be "brought in from the cold" and back onto family t.v.
Angela \\ 04/01/2011
A fantastic production, the casting and script were an excellent twist on an old classic and the sets were breath taking. The show had real energy and set the tone for the feastive season. My whole family enjoyed the experience and can not wait for next year. Thank you Hippodrome.
John Wood \\ 04/01/2011
All i can say is AMAZING!!! A must see production! Joan Collins, Nigel Havers, Keith Harris, Jeffrey Holland and last but not least Julian Clary!! :D LEGENDS!!!
Laura \\ 04/01/2011
Fantastic Pantomine Julian Clary and Keith Harris with Orville the Duck steal the show. The actor that plays Dick whittinton is not suited to this role as he appears as if he is reading the words of the back of his hand. However, fabulous pantomine well worth a visit.

Saw the panto on 4 Jan and thought it was fab with the exception of Joan Collins who can't act, forgot her lines and got her feet tangled in her dress in the finale. The rest of the cast were brilliant with Julian Clary and Keith Harris holding it all together. This is the third time we have seen Julian in panto and he gets funnier each time. I agree with the previous comment that Keith Harris/Orville/Cuddles should be back on TV.

This is the 3rd year of going to the Birmingham Hippodrome for a grandaughter's birthday treat and we shall keep returning as now a tradition. However this year, We were surprised at the very small number of children in the audience(jan 4th 7.15)and the adult content of the show. It was a professional and highly entertaining series of sketches but geared towards adults not 'boys and girls' as Julian kept saying. He was a superb as were all the cast but our 6 and 9 year old who are usually involved and enthralled througout didn't come alive until the last scene with Keith Harris and Cuddles which was truly hilarious. A great show but not a family one this year.

What an outstanding performance by all the cast. Julian Clarey was born to perform in Panto, he was superb

We enjoyed the show lots. The kids enjoyed and laughed with Keith Harris and Orville plus Cuddles! We thought Julian Clary was excellent whilst Nigel Havers did a great job as the evil King Rat! the supporting cast were very good, my daughter enjoyed the dancers, but the best thing about Queen Rat was her sparkly dresses according to my daughter. overall another enjoyable pantamine-well done to cast and crew.

I went to the matinee performance on 31/12 and all I can say is thank goodness for Julian Cleary - Joan Collins not appearing was a disappointment. Not a patch off previous panto's starring John Barrowman - much more professional & entertaining.

Having not been to a Panto for many years, we saw Dick Whittington on 30th December and had a fab night out. Whilst disappointed not to see Joan Collins, Wayne Fitzsimmons was a great 'stand in' and from Birmingham as well! Julian Clary's Titantic and Wandering Star scenes had us in stitches - he is just so funny!Congratulations and thanks to the entire cast, musicians and backstage staff for giving us such a wonderful, happy night out. Highly recommended!

Went to see the matinee performance on Sunday 2nd January. What an amazing show! Joan was amazing despite just recovering from flu, Nigel very funny as King Rat and a very good performance by Dick and Alice. However the show was made by four people! Firstly, Keith Harris, Orville and Cuddles - just what you need in a panto! But the STAR of the show was Julian Clary!!! Hilarious - funny to appeal to kids and naughty enough to appeal to adults! I nearly wet myself when he get into bed with Keith Harris and Orville!! Is this what has become of my career?!! In bed with Keith Harris and a duck! But the best scene was the "Titanic" scene - Julian you are amazing! We had no kids with us - but we had the best afternoon entertainment any could wish for! Go see this panto - you wont be disappointed!!

We've been to see this panto twice this year and are going to book again - it's just a wonderful family show with great singing and dancing and lots and lots of laughs. Nigel Havers is a revelation as King Rat and Joan Collins is, of course, a magnificent Queen - though she does have to jostle for the position of Queen of the Panto with the marvellous Julian Clary who was just hilarious. Keith Harris and Orville provide lots of fun for all ages and the couple playing Dick and Alice are very talented performers, easily capable of carrying the brilliantly coreographed singing and dancing numbers throughout the show. If you're going to go to a panto this year, go to this one - it's brilliant!

Loved Kathryn Rooney as Alice and Liam Tamne as Dick, they were both amazing, their singing was so good both as solo and duet, and their acting was fantastic, they're going to go far in their careers! I'd 100% recommend this panto to people of all ages!

A Great show funny colourful sparkling glam production. Julian Clary was absolutly brilliant and his many costumes were spectacular, Nigel Havers also played a great part as King rat. I would reccomend this panto as one of the best i have seen in a long time. Happy Christmas x
Mrs B Turner \\ 24/12/2010
Panto was good fun, Julian cheeky but not too blue. Keith, Orville and Cuddles were the highlight and made my kids laugh. Have to say missing the big name such as John Barrowman who can sing, act, dance, provide eye candy and make the rest of the cast giggle plus Don Maclean is the best panto dame ever surely!
S Tennant \\ 23/12/2010
The highlight of my weekend was seeing Julian Clarey doing a froggy swim singing from the Titanic! Brilliant! Lovely to see Orville and Cuddles who along with Keith Harris I seem to appreciate more than when I was a child, and I loved them then. Nigel Havers ever the classic actor and lovely to see Joan Collins who was our original queen of the shoulder pads. The humour was outstanding, a laugh a minute, and the bedroom scene was fantastic! My son came away totally in love with Orville. I recommend anyone to see this Panto!
Elizabeth Bartlam \\ 22/12/2010
Julian Clary was on top form and Nigel Havers was ever the fantastic actor he is. (plenty of Celeb get me out of here jokes). Highlight for me? It has to be the end of a 30 year wait to see Keith Harris and Orville in the flesh/feathers so to speak. Highly entertaining, wonderful song choices, step perfect choreography and first class lighting/sound/costumes.

Saw the opening night on Saturday after battling through the snow, and boy was it worth it. The show is fantastic, plenty for the grownups as well as the kids.I was really impressed by the lighting and sound, and the scenery changes were brilliant. The starry cast line up lived up to their names. Joan Collins is stunning, Julian camped it up wonderfully, and Nigel took it out of himself and was a good sport.A special mention to for Keith and Orville who demonstrated a real old school art of working an audience.Highlight for me was the bedroom scene with Julian Clary and Orville- you couldnt' make it up! Do go, cheer yourself up in these times of austerity! n.b. special mention to the costume design team too.
jackie Cooper \\ 20/12/2010

Funiest bits, got to be the ones where Julian Clary sings the theme from the Titanic and Wandering Star, not to mention Cuddles. Hey were giving the plot away,go and see the panto its brilliant.
