What's On > Birmingham Royal Ballet - Cinderella

Wed 24 Nov - Sun 12 Dec 2010 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

A new version of a fairytale classic created for the City of Birmingham in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 20th anniversary year.

Neglected and mistreated by her stepmother and sisters, Cinderella’s life is one of drudgery and hardship until the evening of a wonderful ball at the palace when her Fairy Godmother appears to cast a spell that will change her life forever.Transformed into a beautiful princess, Cinderella dances the night away in the arms of a handsome prince, before the clock
chimes midnight and brings a sudden end to the party.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Director David Bintley choreographs this spellbinding new production, which receives its world premiere in Birmingham in November 2010. John Macfarlane, designer of The Nutcracker and the Company’s recent Le Baiser de la
is conjuring up a magical world to bring this muchloved fairytale to life.

I watched Cinderella on 3/12/10. I treated my five year old step daughter and 12 year old neice who had never seen a ballet before. We had a lovely evening. The performance was magical and the sets and costumes were brilliant. We especially loved the carriage and laughed out loud at the ugly sisters. I was concerned that my five year old might not follow the story but she watched with delight and knew exactly what was going on! I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good fairy story.
