Over the Christmas period we held bucket collections in the theatre’s foyer and thanks to your wonderful generosity a phenomenal £4,000 was raised which will be shared between Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street.

This afternoon Lee Mead, who plays Aladdin and Emily Shaw, who plays Princess Jasmine presented a cheque for £2,000 to brave little girl Grace Green, aged 5, on behalf of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Grace accepted the cheque after watching the matinee performance of Aladdin with nan Karen and mum Donna. Grace was chosen to collect the cheque by the hospital’s Eye Department as she’s been extremely brave recently.  She has recently had the lense removed from her left eye to improve her sight. She now needs to have regular visits to the hospital to check that her eye is healing properly and also teach her how to use/wear contact lenses.

Tanita Mistry, Regional Fundraiser at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, said

“We are delighted to have been included in Birmingham Hippodrome’s fundraising and are grateful to all of its patrons for their generosity.

“The money they have so kindly contributed will support our current £300,000 Eye Believe Appeal, which intends to transform our busy Eye Department by  adding a play area with an interactive floor and toys suitable for children with impaired vision. It will also double the size of the waiting room.

“The money raised will help make a real difference to the lives of the 100 children who use our Eye Department every day and for that we want to say thank you.”

Thank you once again to all who supported this great cause over the Christmas period. To find out more about Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s Eye Believe Appeal click here.
