Sat 15 Dec 2012 - Sun 27 Jan 2013 2013 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

Fantastic pantomime, couldn't imagine going to one without Brian Conley in it - superb! He made my mom's night (Bernie) by bringing her on to the stage (ticket was a birthday present too). Whole cast were amazing, Lesley Joseph very entertaining and funny, costumes, staging - everything just wonderful. Fabulous family fun and a definite for next year!
Claire  \\ 28/01/2013
Had to cancel for the opening night as a death in the family, re-booked and went to see it on Saturday and what a tonic for us we had the best laugh and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to all the cast and everyone involved and so love the Hippodrome and the atmosphere that we will be visiting again in the near future.
Maria \\ 27/01/2013
I came with my partner from west Sussex and we come every year as a tradition of ours. As always the panto was excellent Lesley and Brian were very funny she all were excellent. The car and the sea monster was excellent. We have already booked tickets for snow white and seven dwarfs. Will Brian come back as muddles or perhaps Lesley may bring back her role as the wicked queen which I saw her as in snow white in Brighton. Well donr Birmingham look forward to seeing next years panto.
Anthony Ledword \\ 27/01/2013
i went to see the pantomime this afther noon the cast were great but thought the story could of been a little better

Fantastic. Saw Cinderella with my grandsons last year and the elder one said as it finished. Can we come next year? So we did and it was even better. Wonderful staging and effects and, of course, Brian is the King of Panto - not sure if there is another next year he did not mention it.
Linda Fowler \\ 27/01/2013
Haven't been to panto for years, what a fantastic experience last night's performance was. Highly recommended! Brilliant! My face ached from laughing and wonderful to see a packed out theatre in these difficult financial times. Thank you to everyone involved in producing such an entertaining 2.5 hours.
Kate Brunsden \\ 26/01/2013
This was the first time i have been to a panto and my husband has not been since a child 40yrs ago. We took our five children to see ROBINSON CRUSOE and we all had a brilliant time and i havnt laughed so much in ages.Brian,Lesley and the cast had us in bits so funny. Also the stage effects were really good with a flying car and a sea monster that comes out into the Audience. we enjoyed every second the best bit was watching my husband doing a one man standing ovation lol. A big thanks and congratulations to all involved. Already booked for next year!
Helen w,stone \\ 26/01/2013
We loved this panto. No swearing or rude jokes. Very funny Brian superb , he does work hard! but all the cast excellent. What can one say about that car! If you love panto you must see this one!
Tish \\ 19/01/2013
I just love panto as old as i am and go every year in January around the 13th as its my birthday treat. I participate and just love the atmosphere. Went with my daughter, whose in her twenties, sister and niece. Just love Brian Conley, only have to look at him and i start laughing. Must remember to wear water proof mascara next year - this was the best yet. Congratulations for putting on a great show - all the cast were just brilliant :-) xx
Sue Wood \\ 19/01/2013
laughed almost all of the way through, thought brian was fab. was worried my teenage daughter wouldn't be quite so impressed but needn't have - she loved it too. will definately think about going next year now
june \\ 19/01/2013
Really enjoyed Mr Conley & Co on the 10th January afternoon matinee, My 73 year old husband was back in his childhood which doesnt take much doing these days !! We laughed from start to finish. One other point I must make was the two young waitress's in the Circle Restaurant they were wonderful in their attention and service. We are now saving up to book to see War Horse. Well done Bham Hippodrome.
Pat Fletcher \\ 18/01/2013
I took my granddaughter Sapphire, aged 5 years, to see Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates at Birmingham Hippadrome, as part of her Christmas present. This was her very first visit to theatre and panto, and she was mesmorised, and to witness the thrill she had of watching a panto was priceless. She was excited, sometimes scared, she laughed and clapped, participated in the banter amazed at the scenes, props and loved the colour and glamour of costumes and the dancing, she was completely transported into the magic of the show. She still has not stopped talking about the panto and even went to bed that night with the programme, and she has phoned me and asked me to 'twitter' Brian Conley and tell him he was fantastic and she recognised him from 'I'm a celebraty, get me out of here'. she thoughts Lesley Joseph was a real fairey godmother as she floated on a shell chair. Every day, she is asking when we can go again, so will do my utmost to make an annual family tradition to go to the panto together. Highly recommended :-)Well done to all the cast, and backstage, for a great show.
Tina \\ 18/01/2013
Not much of a storyline but that does not matter. Brian Conley was as fantastic as ever and stole the show yet again. The revolting bit when he deliberately spat the apple he was eating at Polly's face was unnecessary. Apart from that, a thoroughly enjoyable show.
Kate \\ 17/01/2013
What a fantastic show. I laughed from the moment the curtain went up to when it went down again. It was hilarious the best laugh I have had in ages, a lovely colourful, full of life and vitality show, great music and dancing. Brian please come back every year you are brilliant.
Linda Hobson \\ 17/01/2013
This was an absolutely brilliant night out. It was so good it helped me take my mind off my very sick mother who was in hospital recovering from a operation that day. Brian Conoly was fantastic and made the show and pulled it all together where things went wrong and I never laughed so much. It was a good first pantomine for us and I'll definately go to see another panto next year.
Lisa Grose \\ 17/01/2013
He may not be King of the jungle but Brian Conley is undoubtedly King Of Panto. Six of us attended the show and every one of us cried with laughter. The sets and special effects were superb. The cast were fantastic with special mention for the Dame who was not only hilarious but the best I've ever seen.
Glenn Hawkins \\ 17/01/2013
I hope that this review gets back to all the cast to praise them on all there hard work as they are all amazingly talented!!& i cant wait to come back with my freinds & family, i enjoyed the show from start to finish. Brian Conley stole the show he resorted me to crying tears of laughter he is hilarious. Brillaint show great night.
clare  \\ 17/01/2013
Good panto, but what has happened to the good old slapstick and bag of flour. Also my grandson said its finished and there was no 'it's behind you'. Yes, the old favourits are still required.
Christina \\ 17/01/2013

Vicky \\ 14/01/2013
Have not been to a panto in years, but had the chance to go with my daughter and grandson who is deaf. They had interpreters for the performance we went to, grandson really enjoyed it, especially seeing his mom dancing on stage with Brian! It was a wonderful experience, thanks to all the cast and the backroom personnel.
Gillian \\ 14/01/2013
A very happy experience. I enjoyed the interaction with the audience and the energy of the cast. Brian Conley was a real star and the other main charactors too. I don't think I have seen a better dame in sixty odd year of pantomimes.
Ann barnes \\ 14/01/2013
What a fantastic show, everyone was amazing, my grandchildren loved it and so did I! If you have not been then you must, worth every penny, fun, entertaining, hilarious, Brian Conley is superb!
Tracey \\ 13/01/2013
Really enjoyed the show, even better than Cinderella. Mrs Crusoe was hilarious, but Brian steals the show. Glad to see he is still on form after his jungle experience. Hope he will be in Snow White, if so, will definitely be booking.
Owen \\ 13/01/2013
Went to see Robinson Crusoe, was brilliant. We laughed the whole time, Brian Conley was fab and very funny. Great effects. And Brian got me on stage, which my daughters thought was hilarious, bit embarrassing learning gangnam style :/ but got a bottle of bucks fizz, thanks Brian ;) Defo a must see.
Debbie \\ 13/01/2013
We are Friends of the Hippodrome and visit regularly. This was the most fantastic panto which me and my family enjoyed from start to finish. The cast worked so hard and the main characters were brilliant as always. Fast, funny and captivating! We have booked already for 2014.

The best pantomime we've ever seen! The whole family thoroughly enjoyed the show, beautiful costumes, fantastic set and special effects which were outstanding. We all laughed throughout, Brian and the Dame make the show.
Claire \\ 05/01/2013
My daughter and I have been going to the Hippodrome Pantomine for many, many years now. Yet again, this year's production (Robinson Crusoe) was superb, and was a Christmas highlight. Needless to say I have already booked our seats for 2013!
Barbara Bourne \\ 05/01/2013
I had to leave a review as I thought the chap who played the dame was absolutely superb and made the show along with Brian. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Katie  \\ 05/01/2013
We went to see BC & Co last year & just HAD to return this year. I was in panto myself years ago & love going to various ones across the country, BUT this is by far the BEST production we have ever seen. Amazing costumes, beautiful theatre, stars & company alike We love the whole package of the 'in house' 3 course meal, then go to the panto across the foyer, then back for dessert in the interval, then return to enjoy the show. Will be looking for same production team from now on.
Sue Hazell \\ 04/01/2013
I took my family to see Robinson Crusoe and have to say we were not dissappointed. I was lucky enough to go on stage which absolutely made my day and topped off 2012 very nicely. I love Brian Conley and hope he is at the hippo again soon a very well done to Brian and all the cast..
Kathleen Morris \\ 04/01/2013
Went to matinee performance on 3/1, and would love to thank Brian, Lesley, Andrew and the rest of the cast for an amazing show. Brian and Andrew were hilarious. The special effects, lights, music and story was second to non and I would highly recommend it to everyone. My five year old son Charlie even got to go onstage with Brian and bang a drum bigger than him. My husband and I will never forget it. See you in April for Phantom.
Vicky Bailey \\ 04/01/2013
This was brilliant, Brian Conley can certainly do Panto and the dame was fabulous..we had a fantastic time, very well written, would definitely recommend it.....
Helen L  \\ 03/01/2013
Another year of controlled anarchy, superb visuals, fabulous music and dancing and non-stop laughs at the Hippo Panto. My husband, not a lover of the genre, was thrilled with the show. Huge thanks and "Ahoy!" to Mr. Conley, Miss Joseph and the superb ensemble.
Karen \\ 03/01/2013
Totally agree- Phanto was brilliant as ever! Even though the story was lacking the actors were great. Loved the flying car and sea monster as totally unexpected. Christmas wouldn't be the same without the hipp panto
janecroke \\ 03/01/2013
We traveled from Cheltenham to Birmingham (in 2011 and 2012) for the pantomime, and again this year we weren't disappointed! A brilliant pantomime, well worth going to see!
Kay \\ 03/01/2013
We go to the Hippodrome panto every year, aged 14to70. This was the best one ever. Brian Conley is always very good but this year he was exceptional. Truly the King of the Panto, who needs the jungle !! The whole production was amazing. Thank you and we will see you next year. Gillian Wade.
Gillian wade \\ 03/01/2013
once agaian the hippodrome has pulled it off again fantastic costumes and all around production mr conley outstanding entertaianment from the off,and dont them kids at the end bring a tear to your eye billiant thank you mark h
mark h \\ 03/01/2013
Although our two boys are now 17 and 14 this production was for ALL ages. Usually its young ones and OAP's who get the most from a panto but this was outstanding. Technical effects of this quality were quite unexpected and as always Brian Conley was a riot. Quite simply the best we have ever seen . The whole cast were great. The dame was fantastic and so many fabulous costume changes!! BUT THE BEST THING OF ALL ...NO SMUT,INUENDO OR SWEARING ( RARE THESE DAYS) making it truely a family show. Very well done. Everyone should go and see this. Hope Brian and all are back next year.
Dan P. \\ 03/01/2013
This was the best panto I have ever been to. The costumes, scenery and music were all top notch. Best of all though was Brian Conley who 'glued' it all together with his endearing humour. He looked as though he was enjoying it too!! Keep going Brian ... you're the tops.
Judith Thompson \\ 03/01/2013
What a great way to spend Boxing Day, took our 7 year old son to his first pantomime and he was not disappointed. Having seen Brian Conley many years ago he was still as good as I remember. Only negative, auditorium very hot and the noise of other people eating their little picnics got quite annoying.
Claire \\ 03/01/2013
Outstanding performance that guarantees to leave you in stitches. Entertainment at it's very best.
Asha Williams \\ 03/01/2013
This was the best panto we've seen. The whole cast was great. Brian was on top form - even the cast were in fits of laughter. Truely an excellent performance. There was new material - not the same old gags. Excellent
Sharon Hartles \\ 03/01/2013
Enjoyed the panto alot even though my girls are older now they still loved the panto. Brian was great, the backing cast were great and the dame was excellent. Lovely to have such light relief!
K Dunham \\ 03/01/2013
I went to the matinee on 22nd Dec with my hubby, son and son's friend. I wasn't looking forward to it to be honest as I don't usually like panto, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. B.C. totally stole the show, he was brilliant. I will be looking out for him in future productions.
jayne \\ 03/01/2013
Yet again, Birmingham hippodrome have produced another fantastic panto, Brian Conley , Lesley Joseph and the rest of the cast were fab. We came last year to watch Cinderella and we thought it could not be in the same league, but how wrong we're we it was even better and never stopped laughing from beginning to end.Our family are already looking forward to snow white 2013. But I have got to say Brian Conley you are fantastic and make our visit each year so worth the money. WELL DONE .
Stephanie Thacker  \\ 03/01/2013
Took my 6 year old great niece to the Panto, the same age I was when I was taken. It was her first time. From the moment she walked into the Circle, and her WOW at the Hipprodrome itself, and the flying fish and jelly fish around the theatre, setting the mood, I knew I was on to a winner, and I wasn't disappointed. The whole show was pure magic. Sets, music, fun, dancing and laughs for the grown ups and children alike. A good old fashioned Dame, a baddy you could boo at. Leslie Joseph was wonderful, and as for Brian Connelly, he was fantastic. Loved the childre on the stage towards the end. The flying car was so brilliant and so was the sea monster. We shouted, we booed, she danced, clapped, and was totally involved and enthralled. She said she wants to see the next one. The Hippodrome is one of the greatest theatres in the UK, and puts on such a wonderful Panto. Thank you to everyone for making a little girl want to be invovled in theatre, and a great aunt who had such a great time too.
Christina Jobbins \\ 03/01/2013
What a great show! Went with my partner and two boys (12,17). The dame was fabulous , sets magical and flying car very impressive. Brian Conley had me laughing all the way through, what an entertainer!!
clare \\ 03/01/2013
We took our son and two grandchildren to see Robinson Crusoe on 30th January. It was absolutely marvellous, the costumes, scenery, special effects, cast, humour - the very best of entertainment. Long may the Hippodrome produce shows of this quality. See you next year.
Janet Guest \\ 03/01/2013
I love coming to the hippodrome, we have seen quite a few panto's over the years and quite a few with Bryan(i love him)lesley joseph was fab too. the whole cast were great and the lighting and sets were fantastic, i would be Bryan's PUPPET any day. Liz

our visit was on the 28th dec. we are in our 50s and 60s but young at heart, the panto was the best we have ever seen, Brian Connolly and Lesley Joseph were brilliant and the costumes and scenery was wonderful. Have praised it highly to our friends. would even consider to see it second time round if we could afford it. Thank you Hippodrome keep it up.

Jac'i Walton \\ 03/01/2013
Really enjoyed the show, Brian Conley was excellent, so very funny, l thought Lesley Joseph was fab too, all the cast were brill, the costumes were colourful , it was nice to see a different panto than the usual, a must see show for everyone.
Tracey \\ 03/01/2013
Robinson Crusoe is an exceptional pantomime. The cast is professional, costumes superb, special effects stupendous. Brian Conley and all the leads are exceptional. It is a true family show - nothing vulgar. Just a couple of suggestions. Baron Blackheart (Black Head) should have booed and hissed the audience during the finalé and Mrs. Crusoe should have had more sausages and unmentionable garments stringing out from underneath her corsets, way across the stage. All age groups loved this panto. The children were screaming with laughter. Well done Hippo and cast!
AlE \\ 03/01/2013
A great panto, a great cast and as always a terrific theatre. Well done Brian, the cast and crew!!

Just back from seeing the show - what can I say other than spectacular, brilliant, amazing, funny, wonderful things that couldn't be anticipated! A great cast led by the fantastic talent that is Brian Conley - there were no weak points whatsoever! A truly magical experience - please please please bring Brian back to Birmingham in 2013!

Just been to Robinson Crusoe where Brian Conley together with a great supporting cast put on an excellent show! The sets and costumes where the Hippodrome's usual first class contribution. My 6 year old granddaughter and her family all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Sarah aged 43 years! \\ 26/12/2012
stunning, simply stunning! Fabulous cast, marvellous music, really enjoyed the show. A small note is that the microphones could have done with being a bit louder than the music as it was hard to hear the vocals but other than that, it was superb! The good times really did roll! Many thanks to the stars and the stage hands!
Linda Harper-Hocknull \\ 26/12/2012
He may not be King of the Jungle but he certainly is King of the Hipp!! Fabulous panto ~ great cast, lots of laugh out loud moments. The cast seemed to be having so much fun too and that made it even better for us. Thought last year's panto would be diffuclt to follow as it was sooo good but this year's was equally so. Many thanks

Hello all, really enjoyed today's performance. All songs were up to date, dancing was great, singing wasn't exactly the best aka Friday sounded a bit flat but as normal Brian was breath taking. We see him every year and he never seems to disappoint. Love it when he forgets his line. Lesley was great but far too much talking and singing, love the gang num style. Please keep babies out of the hippodrome really spoils it when there crying through out, all in all great performance . Kim x

Went to see Cinderella last year! It was fantastic. We have been going to Pantos since we've had Children - and for us its as important as Christmas day. Kids are now 10 and 7 - Ben, was invited to go on stage and chatted with Brian - we were so proud - Brian, was the most funniest character I have seen in Pantos - hes just so intune with an audience. I am still laughing about the gag about the raffle and the flat screen TV. Thank you to the cast - and hope you have a great new year.
Kam Webster \\ 12/01/2012
