Sat 19 Dec - Sun 31 Jan 2010 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

Panto Website

Returning triumphantly to the Hippodrome stage for the third time, following record-breaking runs in Jack and the Beanstalk and Peter Pan, the hilarious Joe Pasquale heads the cast of the country’s biggest pantomime as ‘Muddles’. One of the UK’s best-loved comedians and entertainers, Joe has hosted The Price is Right and guest-hosted The Paul O’Grady Show and has toured extensively across the UK to sell-out audiences in his solo show. Joe received his first big break by winning New Faces recorded at Birmingham Hippodrome in 1987.

Joining Joe as ‘The Prince’ will be X Factor finalist and Dancing on Ice winner, Ray Quinn, who recently wowed Birmingham audiences when he appeared in the arena tour of the ice show.Ray began his career at an early age in Channel 4’s Brookside and then went on to Merseybeat and Doctors. Following his appearance in the final of the X Factor in 2007, Ray released his first album ‘Doing It My Way’. In 2008 he performed in the West End production of Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre where he has recently returned to play the lead role of ‘Danny’.

There is nothing like a dame...and there is no other dame quite like the wonderfully outrageous Ceri Dupree, who plays the role of ‘Lady Passionella’ in Sleeping Beauty. Hippodrome audiences will never have seen such a colourful wardrobe of costumes!

Adding a touch of glamour to the show in the role of ‘Princess Beauty’ is the beautiful Lucy Evans, who is best known for her most recent part in Coronation Street as Lauren Wilson and appearances in Hollyoaks and Holby City.

As well as stunning staging and sets, Sleeping Beauty will feature spectacular visual effects including brand-new, mind-blowing 3D technology. It will be without a doubt one of the most impressive pantomimes ever staged in Birmingham.

With Joe’s antics, outstanding comedy, high energy – plus a few surprises - no one will dare fall asleep during this new production of Sleeping Beauty!”

Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome, STUART GRIFFITHS added:

“Pantomime is truly at home in Birmingham and we are delighted to be welcoming a glittering cast to entertain the whole family. Sleeping Beauty is a brand new production and we are very excited with what Joe and Ray have in store for us.”

Sat 19 Dec 2009 - Sun 31 Jan 2010 2010 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

This was my 13th consecutive visit to the Hippodrome Panto and I am afraid to have to say that it was the least successful one that I have seen. My tickets [booked a year in advance] originally said Snow White and the 7 dwarves but I was later informed that it had changed to Sleeping Beauty; no problem with that. However on having attended the panto it very much seemed as if the whole thing had been cobbled together around Ceri Dupree as the ‘star’. This did not work! The excellent Joe Pasquale should have been the star turn, supported by Ray Quinn who acquitted himself well in the role of the prince. The dame in panto is a supporting role who is a grotesque figure of fun, NOT a drag act diva. Ceri Dupree in the right setting would be a wonderful evening out, her costumes are amazing but that is not what is expected or wanted in a panto. As usual, the staging was superb; costumes, live music, dance troop, special effects, fabulous 3D, all lived up to expectations. I already have my tickets for Dick Whittington and I am looking forward to a return to form next year!

Fabulous pantomime, though the older ladies in the third row could have done without a soaking from Joe & his hose,I paid the penalty all the way home!! but there you go....another sucsess, thank you Lynn
Lynn Horton \\ 09/02/2010
Been twice this year. The Hippodrome never disappoints with its pantomines. Again superb. The 3D was phenominal
Jan Finn \\ 08/02/2010
Brilliant family show! Great costumes and scenery! Fab performances from all the cast especially Joe. He kept us laughing all the way through, particularly enjoyed the 3D section and the 12 days of Christmas before the final scene! Looking forward to the next show!
Sue Lardner \\ 07/02/2010
What can i say accept absolutely fabulous it gets better every year joe was fantastic as muddles, went with my husband and two kids and we laughed solid for 3 hours i laughed so much i had face ache all night. Whoever writes these scripts is brilliant but its the cast that actually bring it to life and joe was all there with his cough drops he is amazing and what makes panto so good is that he has all the rest of the cast in stitches as well. Everyone sang beautifully they all have amazing voices. They all did a fantastic job but for me it has to be Joe Pasquale who is the funniest man i have ever encountered really glad i was on the front row this year. One word to sum it all up FABULOUS.
Jan C \\ 04/02/2010
Thank you! thank you! thank you! for a marvelous 3 hours of pure pleasure and laughter, The entertainment value was surpassed by none. The whole cast were supurb especially Joe I am sure he will sleep for a week..... all the energy he put into this show special thanks Joe and thanks to each and everyone who were involved making it the show it was.
Bernadette and Peter \\ 04/02/2010
what a fantastic night we had a party of 7 , 5 adults and 2 children every one loved every minute of it, 3D was amazing and joe was great, looking forward to the next one.
Heather Porter \\ 03/02/2010
ithoroughly enjoyed the panto the dames costumes were terrific also the interactive scenes were remarkable very cclever i did not think much of the princemuch too feeble
joan dakin \\ 03/02/2010
Brilliant, as always. Loved the 3D effects. Ceri was particularly good...all those costume changes! Well done to all involved, cast, crew and orchestra.Always something to look forward to and this year did not disappoint.
Jayne Keay \\ 03/02/2010
I enjoyed the pantomime but not as much as last years with John Barrowman felt the gags were wittier and more up to date. But I thought Ceri Dupree was fanatstic he carried the show whose on next year?
trudy williams \\ 03/02/2010
What an absolute great Panto the best we have ever seen. The 3D parts were fantastic
Keith Brown \\ 03/02/2010
best panto i have ever been to and have been to a few in my lifetime! enjoyed it so much, came home and booked for my son and his girlfriend the following evening! Well done, especially Joe, he made the show.
pauline \\ 03/02/2010
Thoroughly enjoyed the show, very amusing and immpressed with all the cast.A bit dissapointed with the story line, not enough of the sleeping beauty story. I dont't expect it to be the full story but it was about as minimal as possible, any less and it couldn't have been called sleeping beauty. It is my daughters favourite panto and she was dissapointed.
Sue \\ 03/02/2010
Brilliant panto - so good I saw it four times:-) Joe was brilliant as always but he had a solid cast behind him who were excellent as well as wonderfull special effects, costumes, lighting and scenery.
Jeanette Sheridan \\ 03/02/2010
Wow what a weekend! To be honest it’s been the best one of my life ever! I’ve never laughed so much in the space of 3 hours before! From start to finish the whole cast had me gripped. They did such a great team effort and all gelled so well together. As the snow put us of from going on the 9th I was worried that the seats wouldn’t be as good as what we previously had booked but it was fine. We were originally on Row G but had to change to Row N which was 13 rows back. Being quite tall myself I had no problems because everyone else was shorter than me but dad and Kaye struggled because there were very tall people obstructing the view. Other than that it was the best night of my life. Ray made a truly excellent prince charming and anyone who’s says he is bland is obviously looking at a different person. He really suits the role of the prince and looked so gorgeous as his character. The dance with Carabosse (Ria Jones) was incredible. They used all of Rays dance skills very well bringing in elements of Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha and Viennese waltz(to name but a few). He landed every jump, spin and turn precisely and his lines were beautiful. They held the passion and intensity like true professionals. I love the song Aint that a kick In the head and Ray brought so much life and energy to the song. The dancing girls really fitted the staging of the song. Its was nice to hear him sing and speak in his normal sexy scouse accent. Id never head him sing that song or style of music live before only on the TV or album so that was great as well. It fitted into the story well to. So close gave me shivers down my spine and made me quite emotional-If id cried it would have been a liquid eyeliner disaster...haha. Ray sang it with such emotion and passion it was beautiful. He seems to get along with Joe very well and they even hugged at the end which was so sweet. Loved all the jokes about Super Quiff and Elvis. The batman scene was hilarious. Poor Ray didn’t know what to do when Joe came out dressed as a chicken! His face was a picture. I think the panto brings out Rays sense of humour a lot more. Joe Pasquele is an absoughlute legend! He connected with the audience and all his adlibs were so funny. I don’t know how Lucy and Ray kept a straight face during the scene when Joe pretends that Ray fancy’s him! Both of them went later in the show. Scene with the water pistol was very good to but I didn’t get wet because we were to far back. Loved the snow to very nice festive touch. Ceri Dupree is a truly faaabuuulous dame..lol The costumes were something else and all the impersonations were hilarious. I do feel that sometimes Ceri&Joe were on the stage to long and we didnt see enough of the more minor characters but this is panto so the dame is a key role. Ria Jones as the evil fairy was a good casting choice she has a strong vocal range and interacts with the audience well.Lucinda Shaw made a very innocent Enchantress and her cover of Defying Gravity was lovely but i do prefer the idina menzel and kristen chenowith version from the westend.Alex Wood was a very funny slimeball and you can sympathise with him at times. Lucy Evans as beauty was the real surprise.I was a bit sceptical about how good she was going to be becuase she never really impressed me in corrie but she had a very strong voice and good chemistry with Ray. Churchill fitted into the story very well as the gaurd dog and looked realistic to. The 3D effects were out of this world! At moments during the scenes i had to shut my eyes becuase it made me a bit scared..lol. Everything they projected looked about two inches in front of your face and so realistic.Cant believe how much better the panto was than any of the others ive seen.Cant not give the rain a mention aswell that was just great! Joe flying to was just awsome-he is a true entertainer! The 12 days of xmas sketch was fab,Joe and the loo rolls..haha. Now for the most amazing and precious part of the panto experience. When we were having dinner i asked one of the people who worked there where the stage door was but she wasnt very helpful.Lucky when we were coming out Tina caught up with me and i asked her if we could follow her and she took us in the right direction. We were the first ones there and by the time Ray came out there was only about 15 people there so much more respecful than grease. He welcome us into the inside bit and came up to me first.I was silently freaking out but then i pulled myself together and we got chatting. He asked me how i was and i said great and he said he was fine aswell. I asked if he would sign my autograph book and i spelt out my name to him and he said thats a pretty name and i said yeah but its oddly spelt and he said odd was good so i now feel alot more confident about the spelling of my name..lol We then got toether for a photo and i didnt realise he had his arm round me at first when dad was messing about with the camera but when pointed the camera Ray sort of tightened his grip and my heart actually did this flippy thing in my chest when i realised. I dragged Tina in for a second photo but unfortunately dads finger slipped and changed the setting on the camera so it didnt come out. This has truly been the best two days of my life so far apart from grease.Ray is a true star and im just so happy that one of my dreams came true and we finally met!

Just want to add my positive feedback for another faaaaaabulous panto at the Hippodrome again this year. As a Joe P fan I love his non-stop energy and the whole cast did a brilliant job. Costumes were first class, as were the great special effects. I have to ask though, how on earth do they do the bits with the waterfall spelling out the words??!! amazing!! We were sitting in the front row so were right up close, but are still left slack-jawed! If only I wasn't in London - would have booked to see more performances!
jazzkazz \\ 26/01/2010
ABSOLUTELY amazing - honestly. Never seen a funnier pantomime. Went with my best friend yesterday (24th Jan), had front row seats and without a doubt it was better this year than ever. Ray & Joe are great together. Wish I could see it again! & the 3D was also amaaaaaaaaaazing - I pray Ray does it again next year :) I think he's gorgeous ;)
Shelley  \\ 25/01/2010
last night was AMAZING!! me and my boyfriend could not stop laughing, Joe was hilarious. really want to see it again. the 3d effects were fantastic, this show was the best ive ever seen. FAAAABULOUS, hehe!!!!

Absolutely amazing!! Been to see it TWICE, still not enough :P Would love to see it again. Its just amazingly awesome
Sam Wedjie \\ 24/01/2010
This is the third year we have attended your Pantomime, and it was excellent, as always. The 3-D effects are always fun. Jo was excellent, as was Ceri - what wonderful dresses! I suggest Ceri drops the joke about Camilla. As a member of the Royal Family, respect should be shown, and such cheap jibes spoil was was a very good performance. It was also nice not to have the sexual innuendos of John Barrowman, who should bear in mind that it is a family show (good comedians never have to rely on smut). Overall, a great show again - and we look forward to next year. MJ

Just want to say i had an amazing night last night, i've never laughed so much, Ceri's outfits where fabulous, Joe going 100mph, with everything he does on stage, he was great to watch, Ray was fantastic as the prince, really loved his solo, so close, it brought me to tears & i had goosepimples from it. Lucy was a great sleeping beauty, both she & Ray lost it a couple of times and couldn't stop laughing which was great to see, also the special effects where great esp the 3d i think i nearly swore a few times, it felt so real. All the costumes worn where fantastic, really liked the pale blue & gold ones worn at the end. Also what beautiful decor the theatre was inside. Hels x
Helen Best \\ 20/01/2010
Our whole family loved the show. I fail to understand some of the comments about Ray who we thought was great in the role of the Prince. He proved to be a great singer and dancer and we were quite impressed. As far as not connecting with the audience, there was nowhere in his script where he speaks directly to the audience, unlike Joe and Ceri whose scrips are designed to involve the audience and continually invite audience response and participation. Ray can only do what his script allows frankly and if that is a problem it is a problem with the Director and script writer, not him. The roles of the princess and prince are more serious anyway, but anyone who can command the stage as Ray did in his solos, particularly someone just turned 21, has to be commended, and is certainly not lacking in charisma. I do wonder what some people expect. Joe Pasquale was very funny, just as we expected as he was essentially playing his usual characterisation, adlibbing and changing the script at will. One of two of the jokes fell a little flat as they were a little long winded, but he was certainly very quick witted and we enjoyed seeing him trying to put his fellow cast members off, all of whom took it really well. Ceri Dupree was a great Dame (and what great legs for a man!)and the costumes were amazing! Again, we felt some routines went on slightly too long, but a really talented entertainer and like the others we could not fault the professionalism and effort put in by the cast. The supporting cast were fantastic too, particularly Ria Jones as Carabosse. Yet again the Hippodrome have put on a fantastic show, probably the best we have seen. Looking forward to next year, and we would love to see this cast again at a future date.
Lizzie \\ 19/01/2010
Went to see the show for a second time last night as we enjoyed it so much the first time. I have to disagree totally with the previous review in that we found Ray Quinn to be excellent in the role of Prince, his singing and dancing were first class and he had great stage presence. I find the comments about lack of engagement with the audience bizarre. The comedian and dame have a specific role to interact with the audience, the prince and princess have a more serious role and the script allows no interaction on their part. For someone so young to be able to act, sing and dance at that level is amazing. He also adlibbed well and coped with Joes diversion from the script very competently. Joe was very funny although we felt he dragged out some of the jokes a little too much and the humour was a little forced at times. Ceri Dupree was excellent as the Dame, although again we felt some of his/her input was too long drawn out, and a little over the heads of children in the audience who probably had never heard of some of the female impersonations she was doing. The 3D effects were amazing. We found the show to be well cast and all the cast gave a great performance.
Sara \\ 18/01/2010
Fabulous performance, the sets and costumes are fantastic. Feelgood entertainment for the whole family. Joe was excellent, as were Ceri Dupree(hugely talented and a brilliant Amy Winehouse impression) as Passionella and Ria Jones as Carabosse. Ray Quinn didn't have a lot to do, which was probably just as well given that his acting was very wooden and he has no charisma. He didn't engage with the audience at all. Enjoyable overall though and would recommend. Looking forward to next year.

Hey everyone, here is my review for the New Year's Eve evening performance! I went with my Mum and Dad and my Sister , Ellie. From the beginning, this was set to be a magical pantomime experience, the music,( live band) the scenery and cast were all first class. Muddles ( Joe Pasquale) got everyone in the mood for a good evening with his jokes and silly stories. He was trying throughout the Panto to make Ray and Lucy laugh by saying and doing things that were not in the script and it worked !!! Ray was a truly handsome Prince and the fact that he can act, sing and dance made him the best Prince i have ever seen in Panto. He and Lucy sang very well together and harmonised well, Lucy also proved that she can sing as well as act! Ray's version of Ain't that a kick in the head' was sung with such confidence and it showed in his performance that he just loves this style. His other songs were sung equally well and the song from ''Enchanted'' ( So Close) made my Mum fill up!! The Panto went at a good pace with scene changes all taking place without the audience really being aware. All the characters played their parts very well and the ''Dame'', Lady Passionella had some beautiful costumes. Obviously for me, Ray was the real star of the show and i didn;t want it to ever end, but it did and in a most spectacular Way.! Joe pretended to make some snow for the final scene in which Ray has to kiss Lucy and then suddenly some Snow Machines at each side of the stage started to spray snow all over the audience. it was actually snowing in the theatre!!!!! This was absolutely magical and a night i will never forget! New Years Eve, Ray Quinn and a theatre full of snow, what more could anyone want? The evening finished with all of the audience holding hands and singing Auld Lang Syne with the entire cast and crew of the theatre. I could have sat there and watched it all over again, Thanks Ray and the cast, for making my visit to Birmingham such a memorable one for me and my family.
Chloe Randall \\ 16/01/2010
Scenery - amazing; costumes -amazing; but some of the dialogue was more for an "adults only" show than a family show. Was not very impressed!

It was ace!!! Joe Pasquale stole the show with his squeeky voice. Captain Quiff wasn't bad either. The 3D was out of this world!! It was the best panto yet and Im sure I will go next year.

What a brilliant panto, thought both Joe & the dame were funny. But was also blown away by Ray Quinn, can't believe such a young man can be so talented- what a lovely voice & boy can he dance & sword fight! I thought Joe & Ray worked well together- Ray the straight man to Joe the comic, goodness knows how he managed to keep it together with everything Joe did to him, & often didn't ! Thought the whole production was brilliant -well worth the ticket price. Goodness knows why people moan in the other reviews -have the been to panto before, cause this by far the best i've seen,

It was fabulase when joe pasquale was so funny he made my head exploed. It was scarry when it went it was in 3D. ray was so funny and he made chair set fire.

We went to the show last night and had a fantastic time! Wonderful 3D effects, and all the cast were outstanding and all gave 100%! Ceri Dupree was superb as the Dame and the costumes were brilliant. Joe Pasquale was really very funny and had great interaction with Ceri and Ray Quinn. Ray is a lovely singer and dancer and gave a great performance as the Prince. How they manage to keep a straight face on stage with Joe is a mystery! Poor Lucy as the princess lost it a few times, and Ray was struggling to remain serious. (I think he appears more serious as his is not a comic role, but it is obvious he is having a good time.) We particularly liked his dance routine with Ria Jones and his solo in part 2, beautifully sung. My son was quite impressed by the fight scene too! Loved Ria Jones as Carabosse too! Great voice! The whole show was amazing from start to finish.
Caroline \\ 15/01/2010
Joe,Ray and the whole cast were brilliant. 3D effects were really good a nice twist the kids loved it. Ceri Dupree was fabuuuulassss the star of the show a must see panto.I have seen Joe in a couple of pantos but this was his best yet, Ray is great in the show he is a good all rounder. Lovely Panto great family show.
lynn seal \\ 15/01/2010
Absolutely loved this pantomime. Joe Pasquale is always endearing and funny and makes the most of any 'mistakes' by ad libbing wonderfully. Ceri Dupree is a stunning female impersonator, how does Ceri keep those fantastic headresses on? There has been a lot of criticism of Ray Quinn not connecting with the audiences, this is a bit harsh considering his youth and inexperience in this sort of show. I've been coming to pantomimes for more years than I care to remember and the role of the Prince is usually a fairly straight one, it is not usually a comedy role. Ray Quinn did well in the role and has a fine voice, ans set younger female hearts a flutter. All the cast were enjoyable. Slimeball deserves a mention; very good characterization. The 3D sequences were fantastic and thrilling, the best I've ever seen, they took one on quite a visual adventure but I imagine they were scary for the youngest kids. My only criticism, and it is very slight for this superb panto, is that it was more like slick West End show than a pantomime, if anything it was too polished at times, it needed more silliness and more traditional interaction with the audience, and the audience need warming up earlier in the show.

We loved this panto, & think Ray Quinn is so lovely-please please please bring him back next year. We have been to see it loads of times & he is so good, love his singing & dancing & when Joe tries to make him laugh.
emma & mel \\ 15/01/2010
Saw the show tonight with my little sister... we LOVED it! I felt like Ray was lacking in presence and seemed a bit out of his comfort zone, but a world-class performance from Joe and Ceri! But by far the best element of the show were the special effects. The 3D was out-of-this-world and the 'water feature' was breathtaking! Both worth the admission price alone. Catch it now before it finishes... I know I will be again!
John K \\ 14/01/2010
come to panto every year, thought ray was the worst id ever seen, he wasnt good, good job joe was fantastic and the rest of the cast and 3d was fantastic aswell. they carried the show, wouldnt see another if ray is in it
donna \\ 14/01/2010
What a brilliant show, havent laughed so much in ages. What an amazing voice Ray has & loved his dancing too. I loved how he stuggled to keep a straight face with everything that Joe did to him. Thought Joe was so funny & Ceri was fabulous- in fact the whole show & cast were brilliant, the 3d effects the costumes- like a Westend show. I'm so pleased I'm coming again to see it, its a must see !!

we went to the show on new years eve and throughly enjoyed it children were amazed at the 3d thankyou for a lovely evening
pam  \\ 13/01/2010
Not a patch on previous year, good effects and costumes but not enough laughs or audience interaction, we always come new year and enjoy auld lang sine this year the cast did not sing it and I must say I felt really upset by this! Loved John Barrowman....just shows what a fantastic actor John is!
Michelle Cooper \\ 13/01/2010
Went to see the panto on boxing night with my 8 year old son & his dad. We thought Joe was hilarious, but then we knew he would be having seen him some years ago in his own show. Thought Ray Quinn was too serious, he could have 'let himself go' and take a leaf from Joe's book and have a bit of fun. Didn't see enough of Lucy Evans (Princess)but what a lovely singer she is too. Ceri Dupree was excellent, and dare I say it fabuuuulooous, but my son had no idea who Tina Turner was, and some of the jokes went over his head as only the adults understood them. The rain scene was jaw dropping. The part where Muddles tells his mum everything that's happened from the start of the panto at break neck speed is brilliant, as was the 12 days of christmas. It'd be nice if children were taken from the audience to participate like they used to years ago. The whole of the cast were really very good. This is the 4th panto that my son has been to (Brian Conley & both John Barrowman ones)and has enjoyed all of them, especially when they have 3D in them!! We've bought tickets to see Dick Whittington, regardless of not knowing who'll be in it, at the end of the day, it's an enjoyable evening out for all the family.
Denyze Burrell \\ 13/01/2010
I have seen a few panto this year about 9 in total. this was the best Jo was great Ceri was fabuuuuuulas and Ria is to kind to be Bad but what a voice Ray was also very good. The opening my jawm it the floor to see what a great start to a fab show

Jane Bennett \\ 13/01/2010
My son and I came on New Years Eve, and we were amazed from start to finish!! We loved the sets, the costumes, the 3D effects, it was fantastic!! Ceri Dupree was outstanding, and a true professional!! would def come again. Well done to everyone!!
L.Wedderburn \\ 13/01/2010
Went to the show at the weekend, and thought it absolutely terrific. We went as a family group with wide age range and everybody had a great time there was something for everyone! The costumes, staging, dancing and singing were all great. We thought Joe Pasquale was hilarious and interacted so well with Ray Quinn and Ceri Dupree, both of whom seemed really at home too! Ceri Dupree was a brilliant Dame, although I would have preferred slightly less of him/her and more of some other characters. Great costumes and incredibly fast costme changes though! We found that Ray Quinns dancing and singing were excellent, he interacted well with the audience and responded really quickly to Joes adlibbing etc. He certainly has the personality to hold his own on stage. The whole cast, from the stars to the ensemble, gave 100%. Congratulations to everyone involved.

By far the best panto i have ever seen! The 3D effects were amazing, the cast and costumes were fabulous. It's definatley a must see panto! We're looking forward to next year's performance.
Sukhi \\ 12/01/2010
Very dissappointing performance this year, not in the same league as previous years. The cast didnt seem to gel at all and there didnt seem to be any character pulling the panto together. What happened to audience participation? The 3D was very good, it was a welcome relief. We have been going for years and have always come out feeling lifted, this year we felt flat. Having said all that it was still a great night out after Christmas.
j skidmore \\ 12/01/2010
We went on a cold winter wednesday evening it was snowy and icy. The panto was brilliant never seen such a great dame a credit to you. Joe pasquale was his usual self funny witty and a pleasure to see. All actors gave 100% look forward to next year.

went to see the show with my husband and 2 children on 27/12 like to do everyone year. Show was amazing, Joe was so so funny along with Ceri Dupree who was fabbbb. However Ray was very disappointing, he just did not seen to interact with the audience it was as if we were not there. John in previous years brings the audience in and it's just brill!! fingers crossed John will be back next year. However would be happy with Joe and Ceri again!! welcome done! thanks for a great nite. You must all work so so hard. Thank you.
Caroline \\ 12/01/2010
who cares if it was cold and snowey this show brought tears of laughter to my eyes. the add libbing and ray quinn being upstaged by a kid in the audience made him for get his line. Ceri was fantastic what a show. go and see it before its ends we need more of these shows and not just at christmas. fantastic may go again before it ends. well done !

By far the best panto at the Hippodrome over the last 4 years! Something for everyone, great 3D effects and Ray Quinn was great! Bring him back again please.
Kate \\ 12/01/2010
We came as a group of pensioners to the panto but all thought it was not upto the standard of other years. It was not really a children's show as pantos are supposed to be. It was more like a Dame's show. We did not like the the song about Prince Charles and his family nor the sarcastic remark about Susan Boyle. Please return to the standard of other years next time.
Margaret \\ 12/01/2010
Visited the panto on 03/01/2010 and was a bit disappointed, the last 2 years with John Barrowman were really funny with Sam the puppet and some hillarious sketches. Although the costumes and set were great this year and joe and Ceri were both on top form just felt Ray Quinn although good does not have the big personality of previous performers, saying that it was the first time my five year old daughter came with us and she enjoyed being squirted, snowed on and glittered, we have booked next year and just hope for some big names. Eloise Johnson & family.
Eloise Johnson \\ 11/01/2010
We travelled from wales, thought the stage and lighting were brilland also the costumes. Show was good, did feel like Ceri Dupree show at times, we went to see Ray, thought he was good, but didn't interact with anyone really!!!!! Joe was funny seen him better in the past. Thought 3d was really good. Here's to next Year X
lynn wooding \\ 11/01/2010
After two fantastic Panto's with John Barrowman we were a bit apprehensive when we saw the cast but it was outstanding we laughed from start to finish Joe and Ceri were amazing and made the show, costumes and effects outstanding congratulations on a wonderful show

This is our third year at the panto. Have to say the previous two years were far superior to this performance. Main roles were not impressive. Joe was good and the his mum was fab. Usually book for next year the night I get home but won't be this year maybe the past few years have spoilt us. Seems to have been done on a budjet this year even the kids noticed. 3d was excellent though.
Lisa Valentine \\ 11/01/2010

What a great show, Joe and Ceri were fabulous. My nephews who were present with me keeps asking How do I look so they can repeat fabulous.3D effects were an added piece of genius, loved it. However, the highlight for me was Lovely Ray Quinn and share the same room as him. What talent, but not enough of him.

Enjoyed the Panto, 3 D effects excellent but would frighten small children. A family sitting behind us didn't appear for the second half as the children were terrified. Thought Ray was very subdued. Joe extremely good.

What a fantastic, incredible show! Excellent seats and thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle! couldn't believe the 3d effects, just like being in Disneyland, but you were at a panto. Will deffo come next year!

We attended the New Years Eve matinee 4 adults and our granddaughter. I can definately confirm we all agreed it was an excellent show. The balance was perfect enough for the adults but still magical for the children. Ray Quinn & Joe Pascale were terrific and Ceri is the best pantomine dame ever. Well done Hippodrome for putting on s superb panto - definately be there next year.
Joy Blewitt \\ 11/01/2010

What a brilliant panto yet again, especially when this is our sixth year of attending. Everyone in the panto was excellent especially Joe with his interaction with the audience. Want to say a big thank you to the staff at the Hippodrome as well because we turned up a day late and you all really helped us out with new tickets. See you again this year. I will book earlier this year and turn up on the right day......

Great show the 3D was fab i cant wait for the next panto. The kids eally enjoyed it.FANTASTIC!!
Kim Heaven \\ 10/01/2010
We really enjoyed it, a great night and my kids enjoyed their first ever panto and my first one since I saw Jack & The Beanstalk with Arthur Askey as a child! Lots of audience participation and fantastic 3d effects. Loved the "magic water", that was amazing and left us with one word "how?". Lots of ad libbing last night, especially when Ray was a little late getting back to the "cage" during a scene change and Joe teased him about it. Loved Ceri's send-up of Amy Winehouse, it had us in stitches. Will definately be booking for next year's panto. Missing lyrics for the lady who asked was "9 smelly socks, 8 ? frocks"
Julia Blakeman \\ 09/01/2010
I went 2 shows over Wednesday /Thursday and I thought they were both brilliant I'll start by saying that I thought I whole show was done through amazing team work, the cast really gel well together.I was front row on Wednesday night, and I had a great view . Ray was amazing throughout .I actually thought Ray was in the first half quite a bit,as somtimes even if he wasn't directly involved the scene he was there .I loved the dance routine with Carabosse(Ria Jones),I thought it was amazing, and really used all of Ray's dancing skills,in both latin and ballrooom,my favourite segment was the Salsa,Ray's tango was very passionate too .I also loved hearing Ray sing Aint That a Kick in The Head again,it is one of my favourite swing songs and fitted into the story perfectly .Ray singing So Close, where do I start,it was beautiful,I think his voice has matured alot lately, and the tone of his voice sounds richer too,and I love Ray beaufiful falsetto note its gorgeous, and he sings it with such emotion,he really draws the audience in.Ray's relationship with Joe is also very strong and they gel together well .I loved the SuperQuiff and Jimmy Neautron ad libs and Ray holds his own, with Joe's little additions to the script, and you can see he is totally enjoying himself on that stage. The batman and Robin scene is so funny, for those who haven't seen it yet,I won't spoil it,but Ray's face is picture!!haha.I think the panto being a less seroius show, has brought to the forground what a fab sense of humour Ray has,as he is in fits of giggles more than once during the show, and I think it is lovely to see as it isn't in many shows that the you get to see a glimpse of the actors personalities, but with panto you do,which I think is nice. Joe Pasquale is so funny,I loved the scene with the water pistol which I got wet from on Thursday!!haha.I also love the scene Joe does with Lucy where the Princess gives Muddles a present,it was different both shows, but both very funny.Glad to see Joe is flying again with no problems .Joe interacts well with the audience and can adapt scenes very quicky, which keeps everyone on there toes, but it is also lovely as you never feel you seen the same show twice. I loved the fact they added Joe's song in too,as it was one of my favourite things to sing when I was little!!haha.I love the rain sequence as well . Both 3-D sections were amazing,it must of took ages to put them both together, but they worked really well and were a big hit with the audience, the first one is a bit scary, and even I was jumping at it!!haha. The snow at the end of the 2nd act is a good touch,I got covered on Thursday, not sure what its made with, but is very effective. Ceri Dupree is the best dame I've seen in a panto, and is very versatile.I thought a couple of the scenes didn't fit with the show, but his Tina Turner impression was brilliant, and I loved all the costumes. In the Wednesday show Ceri picked both me and my mum out in one scene,it was so funny,as at that show me and mum wern't even sitting together,so it was an amazing coincidence we both got picked out. Lucy makes a very sweet princess, and I think she has a good voice.I love the quick change scene that she does with Joe,I thought it was very funny.Ray and Lucy singing I've had the time of my life was good, and I would have love to have heard the full version. Ria Jones as Carabosse was a very good choice as the evil fairy, she has a really strong voice and interacts well with the audience,I love the scenes where she gets in the boxes with the audience, and her adaptation of Venus is really effective. Alex Woodhall as Slimeball is good and you actually do empathize with him towards the end,I think maybe they should have used him more as he is a good character actor. Lucinda Shaw as the Enchantress was fab,she has really strong vocals, and her version on Defying Gravity, was better than the Westend version in my opinion. The scene that Ray and Alex Woodhall do with Churchill the dog is a good touch, and fits into the story well. I loved the 12 days of Christmas in act 2,I thought it was a fun song and Joe,Ceri,Alex and James Paterson(King Clarence) did an amazing job as the song is very energetic.I love Joes interaction with James Patterson, and his participation in the song with rubber gloves and toffee is really funny. All in all I had an amazing time and I think it is such a good family show with loads of content for everyone to enjoy, and people who are left to see it will have an amazing time.I can't wait to go back

we vist the panto most years, the last 2 or 3 have been Fabuuuullous, proper PANTO enterainment. I must admit this year was a little disappointing - more the Ceri Dupree show than kids panto. If you had had as much content & personality in it as the costumes, it would have been a GREAT show..........
Dilly Corbett \\ 07/01/2010
Fought our way through the snow to the Hippodrome tonight (5th Jan) and so glad we did, it was so worth it! A thoroughly enjoyable evening and a totally professional show and cast! Extremely well produced and staged. 3D effects were superb! Joe Pasquale was very funny and the interaction between him and Ray Quinn and Ceri Dupree was great to see - they all seemed so relaxed together on stage and having a ball! Joe had so much energy, and so much rapport with the audience. Loved the end routine! Ray Quinn proved to be something of a revelation. Apart from being a very accomplished singer and dancer, we found he did interact with the audience and had great stage presence. He also coped well with Joes adlibbing and had a laugh with the audience and Joe. Ceri Dupree was a brilliant dame, although we did find some of the routines slightly overlong. Fabulous costumes though, and amazingly quick costume changes! Should mention Lucy Evans as the Princess, Ria Jones as Carabosse, Alex Woodhall as slimeball, and Lucinda Shaw as The Enchantress, all of whom played their parts extremely well. In fact we could not fault the casting or the effort the whole cast put in (including the ensemble dancers). Well done to everyone involved!

Not a patch on previous years, good effects and costumes but not enough laughs or audience interaction. The star of the show was supposed to be Joe Pascale not Ceri Dupree. The music and singing were very good, but this was a panto not a musical.

Took the whole family including 4 grandkids to the show on the 2nd Jan. What a brilliant show. The grandkids really enjoyed it, even the 3d bits.Loved Rays two solo's which were pitch perfect and his dance routine. Joe, what can you say about Joe only that he is so funny. Booked to see the show again on th 6th and the 7th. Can't wait.

Excellent Excellent Excellent. We went to our local Panto before Christamas and this just proves the massive void between proffessionals and amateurs. This Panto was a class act, with a class cast and some outstanding performances. Joe Pesqualie was born to do this. He is exceptional from start to finish. My younger kids (5 & 3) were scared by the 3D section but it was amazing.
Duncan Elliott \\ 03/01/2010
I thought it was wicked this year, although i was gutted it wasnt snow white as that would be different but i have already booked for next year !!! I loved them all espeshially Ceri Dupree, him and his costumes were fabulouss !! However i do agree with elaine bassinder about Ray not engaging with the audience as we were front row of the stalls and he never once looked at us, i even said that to my mum when we came out.
Abbi  \\ 03/01/2010
We went on the 27th and what can I say, another fantastic performance, Ceri Dupree and Joe Pasquale just perfect together with their comical ways....Ceri has to be the best Dame I have ever seen, FAAAAABULOUS costumes, the tears rolled down our faces with laughter....our children enjoy this every year, and this years was just as good.....Ray Quinn lovely singer and dancer, acting a little wooden, but this did not spoil the show....loved the Festive song at the end....our daughter is still singing this....Cannot wait for this years show....
Catrina \\ 03/01/2010
I thought the panto was great! Although I think Joe should be last to get his applause, he's the real star of the show and this should be recognised. Ray Quinn may be a bigger name amongst younger people, but he's not really in it and the way Joe performs truly made the performance for us. Top marks!
Adam \\ 03/01/2010
My Christmas always starts with Panto at the Hippodrome, we came to the second performance and although we enjoyed it Joe Pasquale didn't seem to have the same spark and connection with Ray Quinn as he did previously with John Barrowman. We booked because of Joe being in the Panto but I did have my reservations regarding Ray Quinn as I'm not a big fan of his. His singing performance was good but the comedy wasn't there. The 3D special effects were great though. The gentleman sitting behind my son was laughing so much at my son's reaction to it, he told me at the interval he half expected to find him sitting on his knee he was jumping that much. Here's to next year, we'll be there, without fail.
Alicat \\ 03/01/2010
What excellent reviews! I was actually disappointed simply because I was comparing with the last 3 years panto's with Brian Conley and John Barrowman who really connected with the audience. I didn’t feel there was the same compassionate connection with Joe or Ray although Ceri Dupree did seem more in tune and made more of a bond. The special effects and scene were as always fantastic.

Joe Pasquale was hilarious, particularly with his adlibbing and his numerous attemps to put his fellow actors off! (Particularly Ray Quinn and Ceri Dupree!) Ray Quinn was very well cast as the Prince and certainly looked the part, as well as singing and dancing really well. Two of the girls in our family are big fans and he really made the show for them. The younger children loved Joes gags and jokes, and also loved it when we got soaked with the water pistol. I wasn't so keen! Ceri Dupree was a great panto dame. We did feel a couple of routines were rather overlong, the balloon routine for one, but it didnt detract from the overall enjoyment. His/her costumes were fantastic as were the speed of costume change! Rian Jones was great as Carabosse, great vocals, and Lucy Evans was sweet as the Princess, but didn't have a great deal to do, although we did enjoy her duet with Ray at the end. All the supporting cast too deserve a mention. The acting, dancing, singing, casting, stageing, scenery and of course the 3D and the orchestra made this the best pantomime we have seen. We had a fantastic time!

Having watched pantos at the Hippodrome for the last 6 years I must say I was a little dissapointed this year. The special effects were great as was Ceri Dupree - and what 'fabuuuulous' outfits! I do agree with a previous reviewer in that Ray Quinn never really connected with the audience. His singing was great but very little effort went into the dancing. After having watched the efforts of John Barrowman, Brian Conley and also Joe Pasquale in previous years who give their all during performances I did feel somewhat let down.

FANTASTIC show, everything was perfect, can't fault it. Most enjoyable for both adults and children. Really spectacular entertainment. Will definitely go again to a Hippodrome panto!

Carol McMahon \\ 31/12/2009
Took my 4 year old for the first time. Absolutely loved it , wanted to go again the next day. Very funny , 3D effects amazing. Really glad we booked.
Tegan \\ 31/12/2009
After last years panto with John Barrowman which was fantastic i was expecting a similar esperience. Unfortunatley i was left quite disappointed, Joe was not funny, just kept repeating himself time and time, Ray was far too serious for a panto and never laughed once, not enough jokes or laughter, Ceri Dupree was fab and kept the whole show together, the 3D was excellent and probably the best bit of all.If i had known the cast when i booked it i would not have, it depends a lot on the cast when you book it and unfortunatley when you book early to get good seats you are not aware of this. Will have to see who the cast are for this year.
Anita Gill \\ 31/12/2009
3-d affects were good and the dames costumes.. not a patch on last years panto with ~Mr Barrowman, The kids were expecting snow white and the seven dwarfs. Thats what we had booked. Disappointing overall.
Jason \\ 31/12/2009
It was a wonderful show the 3D was great and the costumes were beautiful it was just a lovly afernoon GREAT
Mrs Janice Gough \\ 31/12/2009
We enjoyed the show but i feel we have seen better. the dame was very good and the special effects excellent. Our only complaint was that the orchestra was too loud, sitting in the rear circle you could not hear the singing and it seemed like a competition between the orchestra and the cast which it should not be.the only other thing was that it was too hot in the auditorium
Barry Bentley \\ 31/12/2009
Went to see panto Christmas Eve, the family and I really enjoyed it. The dame was great as were the costumes and so too were Joe Pasquale and beauty. we also enjoyed Ray Quinn although we thought the performance detracted from the traditional pantomine with the amount of singing in it.. it seemed more of a musical perhaps because it had been adapted to Ray?
JC \\ 31/12/2009
How do i look???? FAAAAAAAABULOUS!!! Absolutley brilliant!! I want to watch it again, my kids chuckled all the way through, will def be booking for next years panto!! See you next year!
Julie Hammond \\ 30/12/2009
really look forward to our annual hippodrome panto. We have already booked for next year!!! Joe Pasquale was really funny, loved the 12 days of christmas sketch near the end. Ceri Dupree was absolutely fabuloooooous and the costumes were the best we have ever seen. We thought Ray Quinn had an excellent voice and could sing really well, our only fault was that he never engaged with the audience. We were 3 rows from the front stalls and he was always looking at the circle, so never really connected with anybody in the lower gallery which was a bit disappointing, singing and talking over our heads so to speak. We put this down probably to his lack of experience and no doubt he will improve as his confidence grows.
elaine bassinder \\ 30/12/2009
Excellent special effects, i.e. 3D and water were the best part of the panto. What is 'chunky monkey'? Is that an in-joke? And why did Muddles have a balloon in the front of his trousers? I rate Sleeping Beauty 2/10.
Kirstin \\ 30/12/2009
fabuuuulous show adults & kids loved it 3d was fantastic.Would recomend friends to go and see fantasticccccc

What a great time the 3D display was amazing and Ceri Dupree was brilliant, a Fabououlous costume every scene looking forward to next year
David Gollins \\ 30/12/2009
Saw the panto on 27/12 was really disappointed. My son (age 6) was bored and wanted to leave through the first half. Thankfully things got a little better during the second half. I thought the jokes too crude for a young audiance. Joe was good but the supporting cast were not strong enough. Ray Quinn looked bored and didn't engage with the audiance. Please bring back Don McLean as he is a far better Dame. Sorry but I doubt we'll be coming next year.
Alison \\ 30/12/2009
The show was awsome! joe pasquale is hilarious, and cere dupree was brilliant! we've already booked for next year the hippodrome never fails to deliver.

jessica \\ 30/12/2009
We have been to the christmas eve panto now for the past 8 years, this year was the best. The costumes especiall Ceri, the interaction. Our 2 year old grand daughter did not move throughout the performance, just watched it all. Already booked for next year.
Mary Hagon \\ 30/12/2009
watched the panto as usual on Christmas eve - as usual brilliant production - well done one thing spoilt it - the request for the charity at the end of the performance. - why great ormands street when we have a childrens hospital in Birmingham shouldnt we be supporting our local hospitals??
lesley \\ 30/12/2009
We had a great time, we especially loved Muddles and thought he was hilarious!! Loved Ray Quinn and thought his singing and dancing were brill - he did lack a bit of personality though, but I'm sure this will improve with experience. Ceri Dupree was truly outstanding and hilarious. Loved the 12 days of Christmas it was great. Came to see the panto with John Barrowman in last year and thought maybe this year I'd be disappointed - but I can assure you I wasn't - WELL DONE TO ALL THE CAST & CREW - YOU WERE ALL FAAAABULOUS!!!!!
Vanessa & Isabella \\ 30/12/2009
I laughed until I cried. This was the best Panto I have ever been to and I can't wait until next year. I am telling all my friends and family to book early.
Pip Green \\ 30/12/2009
It's one of our family traditions ,panto at the Hippodrome, and let's face it you have had some brilliant pantomime's over the years. Joe Pasquale ,Ceri Dupree(amazing costumes, and what a professional),and the 3D excellent, all your usual high standard, they made the show...Ray Quinn, although a lovely voice and excellent dancer, seemed out of his depth,he didn't connect at all with the audience, much like the leading lady and other cast members. This left the show a little disappointing for the family, you've set yourselves a very high bar from previous year. Having said that I'd still encourage people to go,the 3D is fantastic,Joe as always very funny and Ceri Dupree must return, what an artist, and those frocks,I was reminded of the late, great, Danny La Rue .
Jennifer Ellis \\ 30/12/2009
The Hippodrome panto has been part of our Christmas entertainment now for the last seven years! Good clean family fun!! Joe Pasquale was brill again! Ray Quinn what a voice!! And Yes both Ceri Dupree and her costumes were FAAAAAAABULOUS! Already got tickets for the next one! See you next year!!
AMANDA JEVONS \\ 30/12/2009
having been coming to the panto for about 10 years now and it is always amazing but must admit to this year was a little disappointing. Show itself was fantastically done but there was less for the children than in previous years, the childrens parts centered around the 3D which was fantastic. This year had far more adult entertainment and humour with more singing and dancing than previously. Still thoroughly enjoyed it but not as good as previous years. Have booked tickets for 2010 and hoping the concentration is back on the children.
Sharon \\ 30/12/2009
Fantastic show all round! I have booked for next year.
Lisa Griffiths \\ 30/12/2009

Fantastic show, if you havent booked tickets yet, what are you waiting for! Joe Pasquale was hilarious, Ceri Dupree was fabulous, loved the impersonations especially Amy Winehouse,so so funny. Saw last years panto with John Barrowman, which was disappointing. Will gladly book for next year, as long as Joe and Ceri will be appearing please.

lucy \\ 30/12/2009
Great fun but Ray's heart didn't seem to be in it, perhaps he needs to go with the flow a bit more like Joe P and Ceri D. Will Brain Connely be back soon?
Karen  \\ 30/12/2009
We loved it!!!!!! I've never laughed so much in my whole life!!!!!!!Soooo funny, great 3d and was so,so funny, my stomach ached from laughing after it finished!!! Sophie age 9
Sophie Laugher \\ 30/12/2009
I haven’t been to a panto for years, I am glad to say I wasn’t disappointed, the all the cast played their respective parts brilliantly; my daughter thought Ceri Dupree’s costumes were fabbuulous. I thought Ray Quinn was well cast and certainly didn’t disappoint with his singing. Joe Pasquale was very funny with his ad-libbing. The 3D effects were brilliant and certainly had you jumping or ducking in your seat. All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Julian \\ 30/12/2009
I loved the panto and especially the 3 D effect this year. I do think I preffered a more manly looking Dame though as this adds more comedy. Seen Joe P there 3 times in the past 5 years and John Barryman to other twice, would be good to have more variety in celebraty lead roles i feel as I'm getting a bit tired of the same jokes from them. Would have found more audience participation good, but still give it 7 out of 10. Well done.
Judy Bunn \\ 30/12/2009
What a super panto. The cast were outstanding lead by the ever brill Joe. The 3D effects had my grandsons jumping back in thier seats and even trying to get spiders off thier laps. Well done all. The meal before hand in the Reserant was to die for.
Mal Jones \\ 30/12/2009
Fabulous was the dame and all of the panto best I have seen for years.

we went on Boxing Day and took our 6 year old grandson, It was amazing, the 3D was brilliant. Not sure how enjoyed it most us or our grandson. It rounded off Christmas a treat. All the cast was fab Joe worked really hard would recommend it money well spent. Best panto I have seen.
Gail Hollyhomes \\ 30/12/2009
Joe Pasquale stole the show, he has sooo much energy!
Stacey Hughes \\ 30/12/2009
We came to see the panto at Birmingham for the third year running. This year was much better than last year. The 3D effects are popular with the kids & make things more exciting. The dame was excellent and was good at doing impersonations of Tina Turner and Amy Winehouse. The real star, however was the fabulous Joe. He was so quick & witty. The boys especially enjoyed 'the Twelve days of Christmas' routine. All in all a fab day out.
Jackie \\ 30/12/2009
My 8 year old loved the show and was in fits of laughter throughout!
Vanessa and Ana \\ 30/12/2009

the twelve days of christmas made me laugh and the 3D was really good but the church dog you could leave him out. oh yes...
julie \\ 30/12/2009
Went to the panto on Boxing Day. I can only say wow. The 3D and the water effects were spectacular. All of the cast were excellent but Ceri Dupree stole the show for me, we didn't stop laughing. The 12 days of xmas towards the end was very funny. Roll on next year.

Saw the show on Christmas eve, thought it was absolutely brilliant. The 3D effects were faaaabbbbbulous. Cant wait to see next years show :o)
Annette Short \\ 29/12/2009
Saw the matinee performance on the 23rd it was amazing. Ray Quinn is such a great singer and dancer and he performed really well in the second act which he seemed to enjoy more than the first act. Joe Pasquale was very funny, he should have been in it more. Overall it was a wonderful show loved it!
sarah \\ 29/12/2009
I have been to see the show twice now and have loved every minute of it. Joe Pasquale was hilarious of course, and I found the chemistry between him and Ray Quinn brilliant, they seem to work so well on stage together. I actually thought Ray was brilliant, loved his dance routine in the first half and thought his rendition of his second half ballad beautiful, really showed his vocal range. He also seemed able to come down to the childrens level, which is not something some young actors are able to do easily. Ceri Dupress was excellent as the dame, I personally felt that a couple of his/her routines were slightly overlong, but that is just a personal view. Overall I don't think there is a weak link in this case, they all played their role superbly and I should mention Ria Jones too as Carabosse as another standout. Probably the best panto I have seen and the whole family loved it! Congratulations!
alfie \\ 29/12/2009
Went to see the show on the 27th December. Personally thought it was the best produced and best performed pantomime I have seen. As a dance teacher, I thought the choreography was excellent throught both the ensemble numbers and the routine with Ray Quinn and Ria Jones in the first half. Ray is certainly a very good dancer and I really enjoyed the various latin elements included as well as some viennese waltz. I felt Ray really suited the role of the prince and really looked the part. His second solo in part two was beautifully sung and performed. The fencing scene was well choreoraphed too! Joe Pasquale was hilariously funny and interacted so well with both the audience and Ray Quinn and Ceri Dupree. It really looked as if they were all having a really fun time on stage together and it was infectious! Joes adlibbing was so funny as was his efforts to make his fellow actors laugh! Ceri Dupree has to be one of the best dames in the business and the costumes were brilliant. And well done on the speed of costume change each time! The 3D effects were amazing and again some of the best I have seen. I couldn't find one major criticism of this years pantomime. The whole cast from the stars to the ensemble all gave 100%. Well done!
dancingles \\ 29/12/2009
went on 24 dec & what a great start to christmas. Thought Joe was funny but I loved Rays singing & dancing & his fighting was amazing too. I think the dame was good but went on a bit too long. The 3d was excellent.

i think this is the best panto i have ever seen. amazing! you have to see this one, its not like a panto at all its more of a big glitzy extravaganza better than west end shows.

Absolutlly brilliant, best panto I have ever been to. The 3d made the show.
holly and rosie clutterbuck \\ 26/12/2009
Thank heavens for Ceri Dupree - very funny and fab impersonations. Thought 3D very good but Ceri made the show for all of us. Thought Joe Pasquale was ok but felt Ray Quinn lacking in presence and charisma. Sorry not a patch on last year - bring back Barrowman please!!!
Sam \\ 23/12/2009
seen panto today absolutely brilliant show 2 rows from front and even getting covered in water and fake snow, could only add to the enjoyment, the cast were fab and dancers brill well done to all,and i must add the alacarte food in the restaurant before the show was superb ,cant wait to do it again

Absolutely stunning! 11 out of 10! Left me speechless! 3D was amazing! Will definately be returning if theres another show with this cast on!
JB \\ 23/12/2009
DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!! Absolutely fantastic! Joe Pasquale was hilarious, Ray Quinn was gorgeous (and boy can he sing) but the soar away star of the show was the utterly amazing and brilliant Ceri Dupree. Incredibly talented and funny. The whole show was a delight from start to finish. Best panto at the Hipp so far! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sarah \\ 23/12/2009
Every panto I've seen at the Hippodrome has been the best in the country and this year did NOT dissapoint me!! Went last night to the press night (Monday 21st) and I'm sure the critics will give this a great review!! Joe was hilarious as he always is from the past pantos, in fact he was funnier than the past pantos (dont worry those up in the circle as Joe has a little suprise at the end of act one ;) ) !! At first I was a bit upset that Don MaClean wasn't going to be the Dame, but Ceri Dupree was FAAAAAABULOUS!!! Loved the costumes, they were so detailed and she changed each one quite fast!! She (or He??) herself was also funny. Loved the scenery, the lighting, Carrabosse the villain was brilliant, especially in the first scene when she sort of filies over the audience!! The 3D was brilliant very effective, my only dissapointment was Ray Quinn's voice let himself down, but thats jujst my opinion and it would have been good to see a bit more of Churchill the dog! But despite those things, if your going to only see one panto this Christmas, make it THIS ONE!!! FIVE STARS ***** As I said, one of the best Hippodrome pantos yet!!!
James \\ 22/12/2009
Went to the first show , it was fantastic really great, ceri Dupree was certainly the star of the show! Can't say that the role came easily to Ray Quinn though, perhaps he will improve with future shows.

In a great and glorious kingdom the King and Queen longed for a child. They were delighted when the Queen gave birth to a baby girl – she was so beautiful they called her Princess Beauty.

Everyone in the kingdom was invited to the christening, everyone that is apart from Carabosse the most evil fairy in the land.

Carabosse was angry she wasn’t invited so she placed a curse on the Princess that she would prick her finger on a spinning wheel before her 21st birthday and die.

The King and Queen were terrified, so every spinning wheel in the kingdom was destroyed and they engaged the help of a governess, the very glamorous Lady Passionella to look after the Princess at all times.  Lady Passionella brought her son Muddles with her to live in the palace.  Muddles and the Princess grew up together and became great friends.

Many years passed and as the 21st birthday approached Carabosse was more determined than ever to make sure her curse came true.  She enlisted the help of her son Slimeball to trick the dashing Prince Daniel who had arrived at the palace for the party.  By mistake he gave the Princess a present of a spinning wheel. Within seconds the Princess pricked her finger!

The good fairy – an Enchantress could not stop Carabosse’s magic but she could alter the curse.  The Princess would not die but along with the rest of the kingdom she would fall asleep for 100 years only to awake by True Loves Kiss.

A forest of thorns grew around the palace for protection.

Muddles and Lady Passionella were the only two members of the kingdom not to be caught under Carabosse’s spell as they had left the kingdom some time earlier.  It was their job, along with Prince Daniel to put an end to Carabosse’s magic and make sure that everyone lived happily ever after……. But first Beauty had to be awoken by True Loves Kiss.  But who was her true love Muddles or the Prince……………?
