Media Centre > What's On > Blood Brothers

Mon 22 Oct - Sat 3 Nov 2012 (ARCHIVED LISTING)
West End star and multi-platinum selling artist Marti Pellow joins the cast of Blood Brothers for two spectacular weeks. The Wet Wet Wet front-man and music legend will take on the role of the Narrator alongside Niki Evans as Mrs Johnstone in the critically acclaimed smash hit musical.
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary BLOOD BROTHERS tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award winning BLOOD BROTHERS, and Bill Kenwright’s production, having recently celebrated its 23rd phenomenal year in London, continues to enjoy standing ovations at every devastating performance.
No wonder BLOOD BROTHERS is now ‘The musical for all time’.

i really enjoyed every scene but the narrator i didnt really get him cause he kept on coming back and forward and poping out from no where
jonathan \\ 06/11/2012
i just want to say WOW never been to a theart production in my life and this was one of the first ones i have seen and it was amazing all the cast were fantastic def see it again
kevin lane \\ 05/11/2012
Completelty lost for words, i was blown away. All the cast were AMAZING - Marti was fabulous too, found him quite dark and scary. Left in tears, definatley recomend. A deinate "must see" show. I coulod have sat and watched it again.
Bethan Heath \\ 05/11/2012
I saw this musical last night, and it was absolutely amazing. By the end I was crying. The actors playing Mickey and Eddie were spot on all the way through. I have to disagree with the comments about Marti Pellow being difficult to understand. I was sat near the back and i got every word, I thought how he played the narrator was great, really dark and scary. 10/10
Rose \\ 04/11/2012
Loved it. 1st time i have seen the show I can understand the comments made re Marti Pellow but when he did sing it, gave me goosebumps. All the cast were excellent. Would go and see it again
Mary Cresswell \\ 04/11/2012
Fantastic show, Nicky Evans was absolutely brilliant as Mrs Johnstone, and we found Marti Pellow equally as good as the narrator, hope the show comes back soon!
Becky Hartland \\ 04/11/2012
Saw this on Saturday, and it was everything you want in a musical. It has side-spliting humour, intencity and charisma. The only critic about it was Marti Pellow as the narrator, His lack lustre performance made it very difficult to understand what he was saying, and being who he is you would expect more. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommened it to musical lovers everywhere.
The nice critic \\ 04/11/2012
Saw the show last week, fantastic. Whats with all the criticism of Marty Pellow. My wife thought he was brilliant and I have to agree.
ken \\ 03/11/2012
Saw this on 31/10/12 and eventhough have see Blood Brothers about nine times before it still is brilliant but i have to agree with the comments about Marti Pellow we were in row D and he was difficult to understand but i do believe that the best narrator ever is Keith Burns!
Sue \\ 02/11/2012
Renee \\ 02/11/2012
Saw this show last night having seen it in the West End and on tour. What an absolutely stellar cast and from what i can gather seemed to be mostly understudies. tracy spencer as Mrs J was fantastic what an actress superb heart felt vocals one of the best I've seen cried buckets!! loved it
janet \\ 02/11/2012
Seen this show 2 years ago, but yesterdays performance was 10 times better. Brilliant show, beat dirty dancing into fits. A must see for everyone. Can't wait for the next visit.
Elaine Skidmore \\ 01/11/2012
Absolutely brilliant musical :')watched it on the 31st of october, Loved it
Emma Corleys \\ 01/11/2012
This was the fourth time seeing Blood Brothers, and I cry every time. Used to seeing Sean as Micky but the understudy was quite good in, fact all the cast were up to usual standard.Unfortunately Marti Pellow was not the best Narrator I have seen!I struggled to hear a lot of what he was saying. But never the less over all it was still an emotional entertaining experience. Looking forward to enjoying it again in the future.
Peter Jellyman \\ 01/11/2012
Just got back from our school trip. We thought it was amazing. The kids even cried. Niko was superb. Was truly amazed by the pure quality of the performance.
Laura Davies \\ 31/10/2012
went to see this last night with my mom, sister and niece and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! i thought niki was brilliant and sean who played micky along with his mom stole the show. i was surprised to see marti pellow as the narrator i thought he would have a more lead role but im kind of glad he didnt and to be honest i couldnt really understand what he was saying none of us could really which was a shame . out of all of us tho i was the only one to think that he maybe shouldnt have been there or someone else play the part. other than that fantastic preformance by all and i loved it! :D
rachel \\ 31/10/2012
Saw the matinee today and oh what a show! I saw it a few years ago in London, loved it and had to see it again. Nicki Evans , what can I say.An absolutely superb performance, beautiful voice and brilliant acting, truly believed in the character. I agree with other comments about Marti, his performance was good, very commanding and dark, but at times quite difficult to hear what he was saying, and I was on the front row. It didn't detract from the show though, a great production and would see it again like a shot.My hands are still sore from all the clapping! Bravo!
Gill Harris \\ 31/10/2012
why is there no cd or dvd of this exact production?!, niki evans singing is effortless!
Elliot \\ 31/10/2012
Niki Evans was tremedous. She looked like she had lived the life of Mrs. Johnstone, she looked emotionally drained at the end of Saturday's matinee. The role of Mickey was brilliantly performed from his childhood right through to his emotive performance later on. Well worth paying three times the money to watch.
Graeme \\ 30/10/2012
Saw this with my sister last night - fantastic seats in the second row. Fifth time I've seen the show in total (London/Bristol before) and it hadn't lost any of it's original impact. Niki Evans was an absolute superstar and looked like she was actually living the part of Mrs J - looked completely wrung out after the performance. She delivered the most heartfelt performance I have ever seen! Agree with previous comments about Marti Pello unfortunately - he may be a crowd-puller but I found him difficult to understand.
Michelle \\ 30/10/2012
3rd time of seeing this fabulous musical, great production, great cast, Niki Evans quite rightly is gettiung rave reviews as Mrs Johnstone, terrific voice, well done Niki. But sadly, probably one of the biggest 'draws' to put bums on seats is Marti Pellow and he just doesn't cut it. Very difficult to understand what he is saying, which for a narrator is a bit of a problem! It seemed that the attempt at a scouse accent by a Scot just didn't come off. A real shame, but he is still singing quite well, nice harmonies. Rest of the cast were all terrific.
Bri \\ 30/10/2012
I would just lke to say how we both had unexspeted night out on monday the 29th for we were lucky winners of six summer saturday shows when filling servay . i would just like to say once again we were made very welcome by all staff and the show was once again brillent with nicky martieas norater . hope thay have a good run this week .
Lola palmer  \\ 30/10/2012
Went to see Blood Brothers on Saturday. It was fab, seen it 3 times now. Def go back & see it again. Love Nicky Evans & Sean Jones. I wasn't very keen on Marti Pellow. Couldn't hear what he was saying some of time. But that didn't stop me enjoying the show. Can't wait to see it again. Well done!!!
Fiona Hotchkiss \\ 29/10/2012
Simply stunning. I don't know how you all give so much each night. For anyone thinking of going... get some tickets and go, it is superb.

tracey j \\ 27/10/2012
Fantastic performance on Friday. Second time i had seen it and introduced children to it. Brilliantly acted and emotional story completely meriting the several ovations at the end. Truly recommended.
Alan Walker \\ 27/10/2012
Love, Love, Love this show. Saw it for the 5th time last night at Birmingham's Hippodrome and it still blows me away. Laughter and tears all the way through. Phenomenal acting, especially Niki Evans, she is the best Mrs Johnstone I have ever seen!! Only criticism is Marti Pellow's Liverpool accent makes his narration very hard to understand and that's even when I've seen it many times before and know what he is going to say, but don't let that put you off. Brilliant!!!
Rachel  \\ 26/10/2012
We've seen Blood Brothers loads of times and always enjoyed it but last night's performance at the Hippodrome was the best we've ever seen. Absolutely stunning performances from everyone - the singing and the acting were out of this world. We were in tears at the end. Thanks to everyone for a truly memorable night.
Gayle \\ 26/10/2012

Went to see Blood Brothers last night for the third time and still feel the emotional charge as if it was my first. Niki Evans is nothing short of fantastic as Mrs Johnstone. Her voice is one of the most powerful I've heard - worthy of the standing ovation alone. Marti Pellow may not be the clearest narrator, but definitely has the strongest singing voice of any I've seen. His duets with Mrs Johnstone are spine tingingly amazing. Sean Jones is just made for the role of Mickey - hilarious! Great venue Hippodrome. Bring it back soon!
Claire \\ 24/10/2012
Wow. So emotional, I was in tears by the end. The Best Show I've ever seen. Really worth paying for.
Shona Howie \\ 24/10/2012
Fantastic show, great cast especially Niki Evans. What a voice! Everyone should see this musical. Great story and makes you laugh for the first half and sob for the second. Loved every minute.
Andrea Roberts \\ 24/10/2012
Saw this last night, superb as always with Niki producing brilliant acting and amazing singing again. Saw this 2 years ago at the Hippodrome and the narrator was brilliant with a very strong voice and really added the scare tactic to the performance then but I found Marti to be not as powerful, sometimes difficult to understand what he was saying and the accent was a bit awry along with some weak notes. Still one of the greatest musicals there is and deserved of the standing ovation and many curtain calls it received for its first night.
maria \\ 23/10/2012
i am coming to watch your show
kallum \\ 17/10/2012
Best Musical ever. Seen it 4 times from London to Sheffield. Fantastic at all venues. It is both funny and sad so tissues are a must. You must go and see this show. Babs.
