The Patrick Trust are supporting our Young Carers programme via a three year grant.
Between 2015 and 2018 we will expand and grow our programme with young carers, reaching more young people with caring responsibilities in their day to day lives.
Over the past year and thanks to the support from The Patrick Trust we have exceeded our original targets and have engaged over 150 young carers aged 5 – 16 years. They have been involved in creating their own music, drama, dance and, for the first time, gained technical, animation and film production skills. They have benefited from working with professional artists and performing in front of parents, siblings and stakeholders. We have also expanded our reach working across Dudley, Wolverhampton and Birmingham referrals, working with our partners at Spurgeons.
Liz Leck, Creative Learning Manager at Birmingham Hippodrome said:
‘Young Carers are young people from all different backgrounds who look after someone in their family such as an ill parent or young siblings. The work we do helps the children to have a much-needed break and be themselves. We are so grateful to The Patrick Trust for supporting our ambitions to expand and develop this programme so more young people can benefit from our work.’
