PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ AT OUR 21ST EVENT 'BIRTHDAY'

Our guests tipped their hats to Charlotte Gooch and Alan Burkitt, stars of the elegant musical Top Hat at the latest event hosted by BBC presenter Joanne Malin. She quizzed the stars about reprising roles originally made famous by Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in the 1935 film.

Cake Moda As befits a 21st event, guests tucked into a stunning Top Hat ‘birthday' cake specially created by CakeModa baker, Michael Weston. The wow-factor was created by AVA Event Styling and with props supplied by Rubix Dance, guests were definitely ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’.

Thank you to all our prize partners: Chung Ying Central, Creative Shift, Everyman Cinema Mailbox, Genting Casino Chinatown, Little A Florist and network sponsor Highfield Wellness and Beauty.  The evening raised more than £750 which will be used to support the work of Hippodrome Plus, the theatre’s ambitious and varied Education, Access and Outdoor programme.

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS IS 'CUTTING' EDGE

Leading Ladies were at the cutting edge of dance when Edward Scissorhands lead Liam Mower and members of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company joined guests to share backstage tales of this magical adaptation of Tim Burton’s classic film.

Top of the sharp-edged topiary awards went to AVA Event Styling for a stunning display which included Edward Scissorhands themed cupcakes courtesy of @cakemodacakes – the talk of twitter with even Matthew Bourne retweeting images of the stunning confectionary!

Guests were also treated to a Curtain Raiser, a flagship Hippodrome Plus project in conjunction with Re:Bourne, the education arm of New Adventures. As a result of working alongside professional dancers, a group of young choreographers and dancers from four local colleges created and performed an original piece of work to the packed auditorium before the main show. Cue standing ovation.

Our thanks go to prize draw partners Creative Shift, Genting Casino, MakeUp Central, Kyoto Sushi & Grill and Langley’s Gin who helped to raise over £1,000 for the Curtain Raiser.

A BACKSTAGE TOUR.....OH YES IT WAS!

At the first event of 2015 our guests stepped behind the curtains to explore the set of pantomime smash-hit Jack and the Beanstalk.  Guests were put firmly in the spotlight as they stood on the theatre’s magnificent stage and had an extra special view of the auditorium dating from 1899.

The backstage tour was led by the Hippodrome Technical Manager, Barry Hope who explained the complexity of operations behind-the-scenes of some of the world’s greatest touring shows. Barry and his team proudly hold some of the records for what is known in the industry as ‘get-outs’, going head-to-head with other theatres around the UK.

Among the guests were new Leading Ladies associate sponsor, Highfield Wellness and Beauty who donated a fabulous prize which helped contribute to the £500 raised on the night for Hippodrome Plus, the theatre’s ambitious Education, Access and Outdoor programme.
