Birmingham Hippodrome supports the work experience scheme by offering one week placements that are designed to give you an insight into the day-to-day life of a presenting theatre, exploring the range of work that goes on behind the scenes.

All placements have now been taken for 2015. Places are already being booked for 2016.

We offer a unique opportunity for students to spend an allotted amount of time within various departments that contribute to the running of Birmingham Hippodrome. The departments include Administration, Marketing, Development, Hospitality & Events, Front of House, Technical (dependant on show) and Box Office. We feel this will provide you with the full experience of how a theatre is run.

Our placements are mainly aimed towards Year 10 & 11 students who are taking either Drama, Music , Dance or Art for their GCSE’s, or for those who show a genuine interest in the behind the scenes of a presenting theatre.
If we have the capacity, we very occasionally take A-Level students who are studying an Arts related subject and University Students who are studying Theatre courses.
As Birmingham Hippodrome is a presenting theatre and not a producing theatre we don’t have our own in house Costume, Make up, Wigs or Set Design Departments.  All of these departments tour with the company, therefore we are unable to offer work experience in these fields.
We do however have our own in house Technical team who work alongside the touring technicians in all backstage areas such as flying, stage work, lighting and sound. If you are 18 or over and interested in the opportunity of a technical work placement please forward your CV and a covering letter to  gracemorgan@birminghamhippodrome.com
Due to Health and Safety reasons we are unable to offer Technical work experience to students under the age of 18.
Applications for work experience need to be in the form of a letter or email which outlines why you have chosen Birmingham Hippodrome, what you are studying, a bit about yourself and interests, what you would like to gain from your time with us, exact dates you would like your work experience to take place and the school you are from.

All placements have now been taken for 2015. Places are already being booked for 2016.
Please send applications to:

As we are a popular choice for work experience we aim to select two students per month for a one week placement. It is always best to get applications in at the earliest opportunity as we do book placements up to a year in advance.
If your application has been successful we will contact you to discuss the placement further and send out relevant forms that yourself, parents and teachers will need to sign before you can attend your placement.
We do get inundated with requests for work experience so we will try and respond to your application as quickly as possible. However, if you haven’t had a response within 1 month of sending, unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful.
