Information

Join us for a one-night festival of performance and visual art by young people with learning disabilities.

Headliner Cian Binchy presents his Edinburgh-hit The Misfit Analysis. Cian has autism and he likes to spin tin-openers. He taught all the actors on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time how to be autistic. They’re very good at it. Using multi-media, video projection and Cian’s own brand of performance poetry, The Misfit Analysis takes us through a world of wheelchairs and blow up dolls in an unconventional exploration of an autistic mind.

A host of warm-up acts complete the line-up of this ‘Live at the Apollo’-style evening, including comedian Nicky Priest, poet Vicki Taylor, physical theatre performer Jake Jarvis, rapper Nathan Campbell and others, to be announced. Portraits by artist Rory Baird will also be on display.

The CanCanCan Festival is the first of its kind, showcasing the work of solo performers with a learning disability. Unconventional, creative and defiantly different, the CanCanCan Festival makes us take a fresh look at the place of disability in the modern world.

It accompanies Is That All There Is?, a conference to spark new thinking and meaningful change in work with young people with learning disabilities right across the arts sector.

The CanCanCan Festival is organised by Open Theatre Company.
