Wed 13 Mar - Sat 4 May 2013 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

Cameron Mackintosh's spectacular new production of The Phantom of the Opera is coming to Birmingham Hippodrome as part of its new UK tour.

With a brilliant new design by Paul Brown, costumes by the much missed Maria Björnson, a new staging by Laurence Connor, director of the recent acclaimed 25th anniversary celebration at the Royal Albert Hall and with new choreography by Scott Ambler. Earl Carpenter will play the role of ‘The Phantom’ and Katie Hall will play the role of ‘Christine’. They will be joined by Simon Bailey as ‘Raoul’, Angela M. Caesar as ‘Carlotta’, Andy Hockley as ‘Monsieur Firmin’, Simon Green as ‘Monsieur Andre’, Elizabeth Marsh as ‘Madame Giry’, Vincent Pirillo as ‘Ubaldo Piangi’, Hannah Cadec as ‘Meg Giry’ and Olivia Brereton as ‘Christine’ at certain performances.

S BLACKWOOD \\ 04/05/2013
Saw the Phantom at the Hippadrome last night. Wonderful production and Earl Carpenter was simply outstanding as the Phantom. The special effects were surprising too, and I kept looking around expecting the Phantom behind me! I think I was first up out of my seat in the circle at the end to applaud! Well done to all the cast.
J Higgins \\ 04/05/2013
Oh my goodness, I don't know where to begin! What a stunning, breath taking show. We went as a family and took my 8 year old granddaughter, she adored it, found it easy to follow so make sure you take your children to see it too. The end made me weep buckets, I've never enjoyed anything so much in all my life. Just fabulous!
Karen \\ 04/05/2013
Seen the show last night (wednsday)it was fantastic, their voices were brilliant, can not fault any of it, what a wonderful evening, well worth the wait to see. Well done to all the cast and backstage brilliant.

Saw Phantom on Saturday night, what a fabulous show. Cannot fault it at all, the whole cast were superb, the scenery, everything was excellent, thank you to all for a wonderful evening.
Deborah Fothergill \\ 29/04/2013
Spine tingling! The production from start to finish gave me goosebumps! All characters were excellent and the costumes and sets magnificent.'Jumped' out of my seat a couple of times with the special effects. A truly brilliant night's entertainment.Loved it!

Spine tingling! The production from start to finish gave me goosebumps! All characters were excellent and the costumes and sets magnificent.'Jumped' out of my seat a couple of times with the special effects. A truly brilliant night's entertainment.Loved it!
Mrs Jayne Keay \\ 29/04/2013
saw the show last night.exceptional stage sets, esp.in first half. Christine (Katie Hall) is superb, but I feel that the Phantom is weak by comparision and could not be heard at times. The chandelier effects were poor,as it only wobbles above the audience!! First half 11/10, second half sort of fizzles out 7/10.
Fiona Wilks \\ 28/04/2013
overall I really enjoyed the performance, especially that of all cast members who were excellent - Christine's voice was sublime and the Phantom was superb. However I was disappointed with some aspects of the new set - most notably the chandelier which only juddered into life at the appropriate times instead of being raised and lowered from the stage - always a breathtaking sight, also I was saddened by the omission of the staircase in the Masquerade scene, which I found magical in the previous version.
sheila \\ 26/04/2013
wow wow wow what an outstanding performance from start to finish it will keep you mesmorised christine and the phantom were brilliant if you havent seen it yet go....you wont be disapointed... brilliant
paulinesnell \\ 24/04/2013
Having seen Phantom in the West End, I was worried this production would not live up to it. But I was so wrong! There were many breathtaking moments. I thought Earl Carpenter and Katie Hall were superb, as were the whole cast. And the costumes, music and staging (including the special effects) were all outstanding. Thank you and well done to all those involved in making this a truly memorable occasion.
Joanne Whitfield \\ 23/04/2013
MARK JONES \\ 20/04/2013

Came to see The Phantom last night was disappointed at first to see no Earl Carpenter as I've seen him before but the understudy Richard was fantastic you couldn't fault him. Different production to what I've seen before but just as enjoyable. The scene changes are excellent especially as they go under the Opera House. Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Well done to all the cast.
Helen Watts \\ 10/04/2013
Absolutely fantastic! I cried my eyes out at the end one of the best i have ever seen! Singing was absolutely brilliant and i didn't want it to end! Definately would go again!

amelia cook \\ 06/04/2013
Having seen the Anniversary performance and heard the outstanding voices of Ramin and Sierra,I thought nothing could match that, how wrong I was. Earl Carpenter and Katie Hall were phenomenal, the entire cast should be proud of the exceptional performance they produced. This is a must for any Phantom fan.
H.Bunn \\ 06/04/2013

Lesley porter \\ 05/04/2013
Please, please bring back the crashing chandelier, a little shake and rattle just doesn't do it! Otherwise a brilliant production with outstanding performances from Christine (Katie Hall) and the Phantom (Earl Carpenter)
Dotty \\ 04/04/2013
Simply superb. I have wanted to see Phantom for 15 years and this production was spectacular and awesome, Great casting, superb sets, I was totally mesmerised from start to finish.
Hilary Leonard \\ 01/04/2013
I have seen Phantom over the years several times. This production is different with many iconic scenes changed, no elephant, no staircase, the famous mirror now a large wall mirror and the chandelier doesn't crash onto the stage. However in my opinion I was not disappointed and the voice of Katie Hall was probably one of the best I've ever heard with the many shows I've seen and the moving performance of Earl Carpenter as the Phantom grew with each scene was marvellous. Thank you all for a wonderful evening.
B Scott \\ 31/03/2013
An absolutely amazing piece of musical theatre. This production was a masterpiece from beginning to end. Truly capitivating and worth every penny.
Sarah Wattison \\ 30/03/2013
Have seen this a few times now - we enjoyed it ... but not the best production we have seen, the sound was not great - much prefer the original London production - Earl was fantastic as the Phantom, as was Kate as Christine -
Neil \\ 28/03/2013

ann quillin \\ 26/03/2013
Brilliant show and cast but sound quality was poor tonight especially when more than one person singing at same time - just a noise!
H MilesA \\ 26/03/2013
Brilliant... all of the cast were amazing. However the Phantom was too weak in comparison to all other actors in this role - I didnt feel his presence at all - lots of agreements on this in the ladies !.. just cast incorrectly.
KTD \\ 24/03/2013
Came to see Phantom last night 21/3/13 and it was phenomenal. Everything about it was superb, the singing, the casting, the costumes, the songs, the music and the set was out of this world. So moving and I cried at the end. Earl Carpenter and Katie Hall were amazing. I want to come again tonight! Fab, go and see it. Everything was perfect. Loved it!
Andrea Roberts \\ 22/03/2013

clive hopkins \\ 21/03/2013
Watched phantom Saturday night as Xmas present off parents 6 of us went was excellent I saw this in Vegas in 2007 and was awesome although the chandelier was a bit dissapointing in this although the theatre in Vegas was specifically built for it but the rest of the show was amazing well worth the money can't wait to watch the anniversary concert and will watch the film again soon along with les miserables the 2 best musical shows ever hope it comes around again
Dawn Popple \\ 18/03/2013
We saw the Phantom of the Opera last night and we were had to say how brilliant it was from start to finish. I have always wanted to see it from when I was younger and can remember Sarah Brightman being in it. But I am now truley hooked after last nights show and can only say wow, wow, brilliant!!

Best production ive ever seen! Phantom has always been my favourite musical but this production was just out of this world! Amazing effects, amazing performances from the actors, amazing music! Would definitely see it again!!
Maisie Rawle \\ 14/03/2013
I dreamt as a child of attending the theatre and seeing a stage production such as this one. Until now I have been disappointed in my search to be in awe of the stage. I was captivated from start to finish and moved to tears at how exited I felt..like that little girl living the dream. It was wonderful, beautiful, entertaining and every one of the performers made me believe their character to be real.
