What's On > Birmingham Royal Ballet - Summer Celebration

Wed 27 - Sat 30 Jun 2012 (ARCHIVED LISTING)

On Saturday 30th June, the Olympic Torch will be passing through Birmingham City Centre, via Suffolk Street Queensway from 6-7pm. This area and surrounds may be extremely busy and the procession may disrupt traffic coming to the theatre. Please set off early to ensure you arrive at the theatre in time for the performance.

The Grand Tour | Faster | The Dream

The Grand Tour Setting out for Europe, our heroine, a doughty American spinster, can’t believe her luck when she finds herself in the company of a feast of famous faces. However, it turns out that Noël Coward, Gertrude Stein and George Bernard Shaw, to name but a few, aren’t necessarily the friendliest of shipmates. Choreographer of films and hit Broadway shows, American Joe Layton’s The Grand Tour is a genuinely funny take on the eccentric celebrities that populated England’s stages, screens and newspapers in the 1920s.

Faster A brand-new ballet, inspired by the Olympic motto, Faster, Higher, Stronger, from the award-winning team behind E=mc², which won the last-ever South Bank Show Dance Award. This ballet of speed, power and athleticism will be a fitting creation for the lead-up to London 2012.

The Dream Felix Mendelsson’s instantly recognisable music to A Midsummer Night's Dream becomes the basis for Ashton’s elfin comedy. The course of true love never did run smooth... certainly not if a group of mischievous fairies have anything to do with it!

Fabulous, stupendous, amazing! David, Dancers, Music - what an absolute triumph. We felt we were watching dance history in the making and we wanted to see it all over again. When watching the 'Friends' rehearsal I had no idea of what an immensely powerful and exhilarating experience this would be. Thank you so much.
